Apple Today Officially Unveils Apple Watch Series 3, Featured With Cellular Connectivity And A Powerful Processor

Today at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, Apple revealed the newest version of its wearable device, which it's called the "Apple Watch Series 3." The announcement was made on stage during the company’s special event today by CFO Jeff Williams following a moving video of Apple Watch users sharing their stories.

Williams started by highlighting watchOS 4 features, such as the new Workouts app, GymKit, and more. While the Apple Watch Series 3 will support Apple Music independent of the iPhone, allowing users to “stream 40 million songs from their wrist.” The cellular Apple Watch also has the same cellular number as your iPhone and third-party apps.

In addition to cellular capabilities, new Apple Watches is said to have new dual-are processor with up to 70 percent faster performance than previous one. Thanks to the processor, Siri now can also talk, which is a notable upgrade. There’s also a new W2 Apple chip that is 50 percent more power efficient for Bluetooth and WiFi. As for the SIM technology, the cellular Apple Watch Series 3 uses an electronic SIM to preserve space.


With the watchOS 4 includes a Heart Rate complication, it makes the smart watch can measure new heart rate data like resting heart rate. The Apple Watch will also notify you when it detects an elevated heart rate, and can even detect irregular heart beat rhythm thanks to the new "Apple Heart Study." watchOS 4 debuts September 19.

Lastly, Williams touted that the Apple Watch Series 3 is the same size as the Series 2 model save for “two sheets of paper” added to the back crystal. Whilst you'll be able to pre-order the Apple Watch Series 3 on September 15, and it'll launch September 22. The new device will come in two versions: one with cellular and Wi-Fi from $399, and one with just Wi-Fi from $329.
