Study Shows iOS 11 Battery Is Horrible, iOS 10 Took 240 Minutes From 100% To 0%, But iOS 11 Only Takes 90 Minutes

Apple's latest iPhone operating system - iOS 11 has upgraded quite a few things across the mobile operating system, with one possible exception: battery life. For many, it seems like it’s one area where iOS updates seem to actually be getting worse.

According to security research firm Wandera recently conducted a survey of around 50,000 “moderate to heavy” iPhone or iPad users running iOS 10 or iOS 11. They tracked the battery decay rate over a three-day period and found that iOS 11 seems to drain a lot faster.

Wandera estimates, iOS 10 on average takes about 240 minutes to go from 100 percent charge to 0 percent. While for iOS 11, it only took just 90 minutes. This perhaps attributed to things like the Spotlight search feature needing to re-index all the files on a given device or recalibration of the battery charging mechanism which usually concludes after a few recharges.

Although the Cupertino company has so far released iOS version 11.0.1 and 11.0.2, which addressed other issues related to Outlook and Exchange-based email accounts, and fix for crackly audio during phone calls on iPhone 8, but the incremental patch doesn't do much to increase time between charges. As such, if you're still on iOS 10, you might want to hold off for a little before upgrading.
