Apple Planning To Release Cheapest 9.7-Inch iPad Ever In Late 2018, Priced Around $260

According to sources from Digitimes, Apple is "considering" releasing an updated low-cost 9.7-inch iPad next year with a starting price around $259, that’s $70 cheaper than the entry-level 9.7-inch iPad that Apple launched in March of 2017.

It’s reported that Apple wants to push this even cheaper tablet towards price conscious markets, such as industrial enterprise deployments as well as regular price-sensitive consumers. They also wants to witness a new wave of price competition among first-tier players like Samsung, Amazon, Huawei and Lenovo.

With the new device, the sources expect the tablet market to witness a new wave of price competition among first-tier players including Samsung Electronics, Amazon, Huawei and Lenovo.

The sources pointed out that Apple's new iPad may arrive in the second quarter of 2018 and in addition to regular consumers Apple is also looking to expand the inexpensive iPad into the industrial and service sectors.

It’s unclear whether this new $259 iPad would be introduced additional to the $329 model, or if it would replace it entirely as its lower-priced successor. As for Technical specifications of this device, the report didn’t mentions any words; I could think very well be a slightly-tweaked version of the current 2017 iPad sold at a lower price point another year later.

Meanwhile, the same sources claims that Apple is likely to outsource the production of the new affordable iPad to Compal Electronics, while giving the device's PCB orders to Compeq and Unitech Printed Circuit Board. Keep in mind, when it comes Apple product details, Digitimes is not the most trustworthy of sources to date.
