Thanks To Gracenote That Apple's CarPlay Will Soon To Have FM/AM Radio Integration

With its Internet-centric approach and a limited number of apps, Apple's CarPlay does not integrate with AM/FM radios in cars. At CES 2018, however, the media indexing company Gracenote is aiming to fill that void, they plan to release an app for the in-car system that will able to play local radio station.

Beyond simply playing local radio, the app lets you choose from a list of favorited stations and browse stations based on location or genre. Even better, it adds support for browsing streaming radio stations. This app will provide users a rich interface to radio playback in CarPlay.

Traditionally, CarPlay users are forced to revert to their car’s standard system controlling radio playback, creating somewhat confusing process when CarPlay is in use for things like messaging and navigation. Other apps such as iHeartRadio offer streaming radio, but not equipped with traditional FM/AM radio.

Gracenote will integrate with Apple Music, allowing you to add songs you hear on the radio directly to your Apple Music library. The bad news is Gracenote won’t be making its app available directly to consumers. Instead, it will work with car manufacturers to integrate its app on a case-by-case basis.
