Despite yesterday’s Bloomberg report that Apple is making a prepared switch from Intel to its own Mac CPUs, but Macs will be using Intel chips for some time yet. And Intel today has introduced a range of new eighth-generation Core processors appropriate for the upcoming MacBook Pro.
The new 8th Gen Intel Core i9, i7 and i5 processors for laptops are based on the Coffee Lake platform and leverage the 14nm++ process technology enabling them to deliver up to 41 percent more frames per second in gameplay or edit 4K video up to 59 percent faster than the previous generation with same discrete graphics.
Nevertheless, although the Core i9 processor allows for systems with up to 32GB of RAM, it unlikely to apply to the next MacBook Pros, because of the low-power DDR4 RAM is still not supported, and using the RAM instead would draw too much power.
Inter's eighth-generation Core processor lineup also introduced new quad-core Core i5 and Core i7 processors with base clock speeds between 2.3GHz and 2.7GHz and integrated Iris Plus graphics. Apple could adopt these 28W chips for future 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini models.
Last but not least, also intel also expanded its lineup of eighth-generation Core processors for desktops today after an initial rollout last October, which can be used in future 4K and 5K standard iMac models. What do you think of the new lineups?
