iPhone XS Max Display Finds To Be Safer For Your Eyes, Compared To iPhone 7

The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the second generations of iPhones uses OLED displays, follows iPhone X that's released in 2017, though Apple did not use OLEDs on the iPhone XR, instead, the devices adopted a 6.1-inch LCD display with a lower screen resolution than the iPhone XS, so is the OLED screen on the XS better for your eyes than LCD?

According to a study conducted by National Tsing Hua University, the iPhone XS Max's MPE value (Maximum Permissible Exposure) is 20% higher than the iPhone 7, MPE measures the time before a retina will become inflamed due to screen exposure. The iPhone 7 has a screen score of 288 seconds, while the iPhone XS Max scores 346 seconds, which means iPhone XS users can watch the screen for longer without hurting their eyes.

In terms of impact on sleep, the iPhone XS Max display is also one that's lower than the iPhone 7. The test found that iPhone XS Max was 20.1% Melatonin Suppression Sensitivity, while iPhone 7 hit by 24.6%, MSS is a measurement of the blue light emitted by the display, which would disturb the user's circadian rhythm.

All in all, the study shows that using OLED is more healthy than using LCD display. However, since the iPhone XR hasn't officially on sale yet, it's unclear if it's better than iPhone 7.
