Report: Upcoming 16-Inch MacBook Pro To Use Intel's Coffee Lake Processors

According to IHS Markit analyst Jeff Lin, the production of upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro to start in September, and it will be powered by Intel's ninth-generation Coffee Lake Refresh processors, which is the same chipset that's being used in the 15-inch MacBook Pro released in May this year.

If the prediction proved to be true, this implies that the 16-inch MacBook Pro will able available in up- to-8-core configurations, 2.4GHz clock speed, and 5.0GHz max Turbo Boost frequency. There will be also a 6-core Core i7 processors model. All of the chips are integrated with Intel's UHD Graphics 630.

Lin went on to suggest that Apple will discontinue the 15-inch MacBook Pro models, as it was rumored that the 16-inch MacBook Pro will have the same body size as the 15-inch model. However, TF International's Ming-Chi Kuo said a refresh is coming in 2020 for the 15-inch MacBook Pro.
Lin had been tentative about the end of 15.4-inch MacBook production in his first email. In a second email he said that “it is confirmed from OEM & panel supplier” that 15.4-inch MacBook Pro production will end in November. “I am pretty sure that MacBook 15.4” will be EOL [End-of-Life],” he added.
The upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro will be completely redesigned with a bezel-less screen and will switch to a more reliable scissor keyboard rather than the controversial butterfly keyboard. Lastly, Jeff Lin said that the screen resolution of the 16-inch MacBook Pro is 3072 x 1920, or PPI of 227.
