Kuo: 2019 iPhones And Apple's Tile Competitor To Support Ultra Wide Band Tech

Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in his latest research paper that he expects the three iPhones to be released in next week, namely iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and Apple's tile-like tracker, will support UWB technology, which is also a key innovation of the 2019 iPhone.

Ultra Wide Band (UWB) is a short-range radio tech that instead of utilizing a sinusoidal carrier, it employs a technique which causes a spreading of the radio energy over a very wide frequency band, with a very low power spectral density. UWB technology has the advantages of low system complexity, low power spectral density of transmitted signals, insensitivity to channel fading, low interception capability, and high positioning accuracy. It is particularly suitable for high-speed wireless access in dense multipath locations such as indoors.

With UWB technology, Apple will considerably enhance the user experience of indoor positioning, and integration with low-energy Bluetooth will certainly shift the iBeacon feature to a high level. iBeacon is a protocol that was designed to provide location-based information and services to iPhones and other iOS devices in a completely different way, and it was launched by the company in 2013

There is a batch of proof that Apple is developing a Tile-like tracker for the general public. Some developers have discovered that the initial beta builds in iOS 13 include references for a device of type Tag1,1. and it uses the same paring technology as AirPods and HomePod.

Other predictions that Kuo have made in this report includes a new form factor design is coming to 2020 iPhones, 5G support, and rear time-of-flight (TOF) camera sensor for AR capabilities.
