Beats Unveil Solo Pro, Its First On-Ear And Noise-Cancelling Headphone

Apple's subsidiary Beats today unveiled the new Solo Pro, its first on-ear, noise-cancelling headphone.
“The Solo form factor is incredibly popular, with over 30 million sold to date,” said Luke Wood, president of Beats by Dre. “Beats created Solo Pro to bring much needed innovation to the on-ear headphone market. With phenomenal acoustics, multiple listening modes and a progressive design, Solo Pro joins recently launched Powerbeats Pro as part of the next generation of Beats products.”

The new Solo Pro features Pure ANC noise canceling technology and is powered by an H1 chip that supports the "Hey Siri" feature like the Powerbeats Pro and AirPods. Once Pure ANC is enabled, a mode called "Transparency" will also be activated that will switch its external microphones on for a natural environmental noise filter, and allow the user to hear announcements, talk to friends, keep abreast of their surroundings, and more without pause for music playback — all with a button tap.

Furthermore, Solo Pro includes Apple's Audio Sharing feature. Introduced in iOS 13, Audio Sharing makes it possible for users to share audio wirelessly between Solo Pro and other Beats and AirPods with H1 or W1 chips, including Solo Pro, Powerbeats Pro, Beats Studio3 Wireless, Solo3 Wireless, BeatsX and Powerbeats3 Wireless.

When the Solo Pro is flipped on, the power is automatically switched on and shut off when it is unfolded.

For battery life, the Solo Pro has scored 22 hours of audio playback (with noise-cancelling enabled), and when it's disabled, you'll have a much longer battery life of 40 hours. The Solo Pro can be charged with a Lightning cable, and the good old micro USB port has finally been ditched. Charging for 10 minutes provides 3 hours of battery life.

Availability in the US for Solo Pro will begin on October 30th in Black, Ivory, Gray, Dark Blue, Light Blue and Red starting at $299.95, with Pre-order now available in the US today at apple.com.
