The production of A series chips usually starts from April to May, meaning that TSMC's mass production of the A14 chip is on schedule and has not been affected by the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
Since 2016, TSMC has been the sole supplier of Apple's "A-series" processors. For example, the A12 processor in 2018 used a 7-nanometer process, while the A13 processor last year used a 7-nanometer process + extreme ultraviolet lithography. And this year, the chipmaker will be using 5nm technology to produce the A14 processor.
Last year, the Taiwan-based semiconductor firm announced a $25 billion investment in 5-nanometer manufacturing technology to maintain its exclusive supplier status for "A-series" processors.
According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will launch four iPhone 12 models support 5G this fall, including a 5.4-inch iPhone, two 6.1-inch models, and a 6.7-inch model.
Though Apple is widely rumored to release a new low-end 4.7-inch iPhone model in the first half of this year, but the budget smartphone is expected to feature the A13 chipset.
