New Milestone For Apple's Podcasting Platform: Surpassed 50 Billion Of Episode Downloads And Streams

The Apple podcasting platform has made excellent progress in the past year. According to the Fast Company's report in which the number of podcasts for Podcast app and its download/streams times have just reached a new milestone.

The report states that Apple Podcasts hit 50 billion all-time episode downloads and streams. Indeed, a massive increase from the 13.7 billion in 2017. However, it should be noted that these numbers include both downloads in iTunes and the Podcasts app, as well as online streaming.

Since 2005, Apple has added podcasting capabilities to iTunes. Following it is launched, it has grown very rapidly. In 2014, the platform has topped over 7 million podcast downloads, 10.5 billion in 2016, plus.7 billion episode downloads and streams as of last year.

These days, according to Apple, it is home to over 525,000 active shows, with more than 18.5 million episodes available, including content in over 100 languages. Its podcasts span the globe, covering 155 countries and, per Apple, “29 groupings of localized editorial.” In short, if you feel overwhelmed with podcast content–you’re not alone.

This has also something to do with a number of improvements to the podcasting platform through iOS 11, such as adding support for seasons, Podcast Analytics to outline people's listening behaviors, and few tweaks to the Podcasts app on iOS.
