Apple confirmed that its T2 security chip may block some third-party repairs for Mac users. according to The Verge. As mentioned in the documentation, any Mac equipped with a T2 security chip, the AST 2 system configuration software must be running to complete the entire repair process, if the step skipped, the macOS will not be power on and the repair will not be completed.
Simply put, the new generation of T2 chip Macs need to run a diagnostic, including motherboards and Touch ID sensors. However, Apple did not announce which components required software diagnostic. The devices with T2 chip includes MacBook, iMac Pro, Mac mini, and the new MacBook Air.
For Macs with the Apple T2 chip, the repair process is not complete for certain parts replacements until the AST 2 System Configuration suite has been run.
