iPhone XS And XS Max Saw The Most Significant Boost In 4G Performance Than Predecessors

According to OpenSignal's latest research report, Apple's 2018 iPhone XS line saw the most significant boost in 4G performance for the first time in many years. However, iPhones launched between 2015 and 2017 see no network speed improvement, this includes iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPhone 8.

The study found that iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are nearly 26% faster than all iPhones released during 2015-2017. The agency tested iPhone models from multiple carriers in the United States from October 26 last year to January 24 this year. Interestingly, OpenSignal said in the report that the larger iPhone "Plus" models has a statistical draw with the smaller models rather than having better 4G speed.

In terms of speed, the iPhone XS Max performed best with a maximum download speed of 21.7 mbps; the iPhone XS ranked second with 20.5 mbps, and the iPhone XR was behind the iPhone X at 17.6 mbps and 18.5 mbps, mainly due to the former uses 2 x 2 MIMO technology instead of 4 x 4 MIMO.

Apple is known for slowly accept the latest cellular standards. For instance, when the original iPhone was released, it adopted 2G standard rather than the 3G that has gradually emerged. Also, it wasn't until 2012 that the iPhone 5 begins to support 4G networks. As for 5G, the company is expected to use the technology by 2020, whereas most Android vendors will begin release their 5G smartphone this year.
