A DJ named White Panda complained that his 2015 MacBook Pro battery exploded during normal use. He said that the explosion caused his MacBook Pro to catch on fire, set the smoke detectors off and some of his property damaged. An hour after the situation started, he took it to the Apple Store to have it checked out by an Apple Genius.

The story starts when White Panda used his MacBook Pro to check Reddit and Twitter regularly. Then all of a sudden, his MacBook started to seep out smoke both sides and almost burnt his upper thighs. Panda said that,
Yesterday afternoon my MacBook Pro exploded during normal use. It was on my lap, plugged in, and suddenly started to spew smoke out both sides. I quickly placed it on the floor where it popped, the smoke increased, and it caught fire. Toxic smelling smoke filled my house triggering smoke and CO alarms. No one was injured, thankfully, but there was some damage to my home. The situation could have been much worse – imagine if I had been on a plane.
Next, White Panda went back in his house and removed the scolding hot MacBook from the porch safely. He left it open on the ground to let it cool off for several minutes. He further explains the situation that,
I went inside and was able to remove the computer to the porch using gloves (it was scalding hot). Below is a short video was taken when I re-entered the house a few minutes after the explosion. After it cooled for an hour or so, I took it to the local Apple store in a rage. They understood the severity of the situation but said nothing could be done until it spent 24 hours in a fire-proof safe and that they’d call me with a plan/update.
After an hour the MacBook Pro started burning, he rushed to the local Apple Store to have his MacBook Pro issue sorted out. The Geniuses understood the severity of the situation and they put his MacBook in a fireproof safe for a day. On the other hand, it is unsure if the Geniuses will further evaluate the problem and examine his MacBook Pro for more evidence about that.

Finally, the DJ hasn’t received a call back from the Apple Store after the timeframe, so he called the store about the status of the issue. He states that,
They did not call. I reached out today and was told it had been “escalated” and I should hear something within FIVE days. I produce music for a living – FIVE days without my computer is unacceptable. It seemed like a worthwhile piece of information to share with the world, so there you have it.
White Panda tells us that the Genius told him the burning MacBook problem has severed than the beginning and they had to keep the MacBook in the safe for a few more days. The Geniuses might’ve found out that this is a severe case of exploding MacBook Pro batteries, so they have to keep it longer for further evaluation. Contrary to the point, Apple should contact Panda five days later from today.

In essence, exploding Apple batteries are a rare case of the Mac issues we look at nowadays, only affecting an estimated 1.4 billion as of January 2018. That’s a low rate of Mac batteries exploding when it’s compared to the rate of shattered iPhone screens! On the contrary, we hope that White Panda gets a solution to this issue as soon as possible.

If your Apple device starts to swell up and smoke out, we advise you to bring your iPhone, Mac or iPad to the local Apple Store IMMEDIATELY. The Geniuses will provide your Mac or iOS device with the care needed to resolve this issue and many service options.
