Reports Suggest Apple COO Jeff Williams Should Become Apple’s Next CEO

Many people think the Apple COO Jeff Williams should take over Apple CEO Tim Cook after the departure of Jony Ive. Even though Williams helped out the Industrial Design Team with the development of Apple Watch in 2015, he is actually taking over Jony Ive’s title of Chief Design Officer. Here are the reasons why the Apple COO should transition to CEO in the future.

To begin with, the Wall Street Journal examined many sources proving that Williams is taking over Ive’s role and then to CEO of Apple. The WSJ article states that he has a passion for design, due to his collaboration with the design and engineering teams for the Apple Watch. He also was responsible for the early prototypes of the Apple Watch during its development in 2014.

Not only the COO of Apple has an interest in design, but he mostly runs the company every day. One of Williams’ former colleagues says “He sees where we are, not where we need to be in years to come.” On the other hand, many unconfirmed reports state that Williams is more important in product design than Tim Cook. This draws up to the reason why he should be the next CEO of Apple, albeit Cook’s dismissal of an earlier WSJ accusation about Jony Ive leaving Apple.

Finally, Apple CEO Tim Cook explains the change to the company without Jony Ive. He says in the Newsroom article that, “The design team is phenomenally talented. As Jony has said, they’re stronger than ever, and I have complete confidence that they will thrive under Jeff, Evans and Alan’s leadership.” He is saying that these talented and amazing people will continue leading the design team at Apple, including Williams. In addition, he is referring to the new Industrial Design VP Evans Hankey and Alan Dye, VP of Human Interface Design. These chiefs are now reporting to COO Jeff Williams.
