A fellow from New Jersey named James Prudenciano was saved by his Apple Watch Series 4 after falling down a cliff. He was hiking in the evening with his girlfriend, identified Paige Paruso. The couple fell through the foliage than to the steep cliff and slid off to the Navesink River. When Prudenciano landed on the cliff, his Apple Watch automatically detected the fall and called emergency services and his emergency contacts.

Prudencio and Paruso were in New Jersey's Hartshorne Woods Park, where the fall took place. At that time it was dusk and they were unable to see where they were going, which resulted in them slipping down the cliff and into the sea. Prudenciano told News 12 of the treacherous fall he said, "I looked down and noticed it was a straight drop to the rocks and water. We got to the bottom and that's when it was life or death." He predicted the huge fall from the cliff would be deadly, but when they landed, his Apple Watch detected the fall.

Ultimately, James's Apple Watch iMessaged his mother about the fall and his location and called 911. The rescue team transported the couple by boat to the Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where they were treated for their injuries.

Fortunately, as she fell in the water, Paige Paruso did not suffer severe injuries from the fall, but James Prudenciano sustained three fractures on his back as a result of landing on the rocky ground. Without his Apple Watch Series 4, without emergency SOS or error warning, he wouldn't survive the journey. Their story will show those certain wearers of the Apple Watch Series 4 and 5 how fall detection has saved their lives from a long drop down the cliff and down the river.
