Apple Plans To Launch Mega Service Bundle In 2020; News+ Unable To Attract More Subscribers

A new report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple is working with partners to launch a media bundle in 2020. Apple Music, Apple TV Plus, and Apple News Plus were said to be part of the bundle.

While that's going on, the CNBC report said that Apple News Plus is struggling to get subscribers, with publishers frustrated at the result they're receiving. For example, one publisher earned between $20,000 and $30,000 per month from Apple News+, while another publisher spoke to CNBC that advertising from the free Apple News service has steadily increased.

Therefore, it'is possible that because Apple News+ saw lower-than-expected subscribers count, hence the company was concerned that similar situation could happen to TV Plus, and then decided might as well bundle them together to attract more subscribers.

Noted this is not the first time that offers the so-called "family package." Just recently, the iPhone maker launched a deal for students in which allows them to get the Apple TV Plus for free with an Apple Music Student subscription. Additionally,  a “Pro Apps” bundle is available to students, which includes Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, Motion 5, Compressor 4, and MainStage 3, for $199.99.
Bundling these offerings could attract more subscribers, as Amazon.com Inc.’s Prime service has done. Apple is already experimenting with this kind of approach. It recently began offering a free Apple TV+ subscription to students who are Apple Music subscribers. Still, the company’s plans may change, given how complex deals like these can be.
For better or worse, Apple is also facing a big stumbling block—bundling of Apple Music. At this point in time, Apple is charging 70% of its total revenue to labels. Although Cupertino has been working to negotiate terms with the labels to bundle Apple Music, however, the former concerns it could result in a much lower split in revenue.
