Apple To Change iPhone Launch Game Plan; Four New iPhones In Fall 2020

J.P. Morgan analysts predicted in a report released on Monday that Apple may change its iPhone launch strategy and launch new smartphones twice a year starting in 2021, as per CNBC.

This shift in distribution strategy will allow Apple to meet seasonal demand and give the company more flexibility to update its products over a six-month period to compete with other companies that release new phones once a year.

Since 2011, Apple regularly releases new iPhones in September and October, which will make the quarter ending in December the largest financial quarter for Apple, driven by the holiday season. If the company releases new iPhones twice a year, as JP Morgan analysts have said, this will be a significant strategic alteration in Apple's most critical product range.

The analyst went on predicts that Apple will launch four new iPhone models in September 2020. This is distinct from the launch strategy of the three new models that Apple has adopted since 2017.  Additionally, the tech-giant will launch a refreshed iPhone 8 (iPhone SE2) with A13 chip in the spring.

JP Morgan analyst also foretells that all four phones that are coming in the next fall will be implemented with higher-performance OLED screens and support 5G channels. Although some models may not support faster mmWave technology.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with Tianfeng International, predicts that all iPhones launched by Apple in 2020 will support 5G networks. He too believes that Apple is planning to launch iPhones with 6.7-inch, 6.1-inch, and 5.4-inch OLED displays.

Several analysts point out that increased screen size options and 5G support may encourage current iPhone users to upgrade. As a result,  JP Morgan Chase gave Apple shares an "overweight" rating and raised its 12-month target price from $290 to $296.
