iPhone 12 To Feature Improved Face ID And ToF Tech

According to Barclays analysts Blaine Curtis, Thomas O'Malley and Baylie Harri, the iPhone 12 models would incorporate a "refreshed" TrueDepth front-facing device for the benefit of Apple supplier Lite-On Semiconductor. It suggests that the iPhone 12 would include the improved Face ID sensor, but did not provide specific details.

Analysts also said that the rear camera system of the iPhone 12 Pro model will have 3D sensing based on the time of flight (ToF) technology, which has been rumored frequently. They also expect the iPhone 12 Pro to include the 6GB of RAM, which is higher than the 4GB of the iPhone 11 Pro model.

Barclays claims the biggest change is that they expect that Apple will drop the Lightning connector from at least one iPhone model in 2021, which is in line with Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo forecast last month. They say that this will also make EarPods wired headphones no longer included in the new device.

Rumors have it that Apple plans to release five new iPhones in 2020, including the "iPhone SE 2" (or "iPhone 9") to be released at the end of March, and four high-end models supporting 5G in the fall.
