Intel Unveils iMac-Ready 10th Gen 'Comet Lake' Desktop Processors

Intel today introduced its tenth-generation Comet Lake desktop processors, which are suitable for iMac. There are 32 models in the Comet Lake range, but only a few are suitable for Apple's desktop computers.

The Core i9-10900K, which Intel promotes as the world's fastest gaming processor, utilizes a 10-core configuration with a base frequency of 3.7 GHz as well as a maximum of 5.3 GHz with Intel Thermal Velocity Boost out of the box This chip is an upgraded model of 9900K, suitable for the top-end iMac.

According to Intel, improvements in this generation include:
  • Up to 187 frames per second for in-game performance while streaming and recording, and up to 63 percent more frames per second in gaming compared with a 3-year-old PC.
  • Up to 12 percent faster video editing compared with the previous generation, and up to 15 percent faster6 video editing compared with a 3-year-old PC.
  • Up 18 percent faster 4K video editing compared with the previous generation, and up to 35 percent faster 4K video editing compared with a 3-year-old PC.
  • Up to 31 percent, better overall system performance compared with a 3-year-old PC9, 10.
The current iMac is equipped with eighth and ninth generation Coffee Lake processors. The processors suitable for the future 21.5-inch iMac include i3-10100, i5-10500, and i7-10700; the models suitable for 27-inch iMac are i5-10500, i5-10600 and i5 10600K, and the flagship i9 processors.

The release date of the new iMac is not evident, it may be the second half of this year. In March of this year, CoinX predicted that iMac and Mac mini will be updated soon, and Mac mini would be launched in two weeks, but there's no word about the new iMac.
