iOS 14 Could Let Users Try Apps Without Downloading It, Code Suggests

Early builds of iOS 14 suggests that Apple is working on a new way that allow users to experience specific content of third-party applications throughout the operating system without downloading them, such a feature will allow users to experience some features of an application by scanning a QR code.

According to 9to5Mac, a new API was found in the iOS 14 code, internally called "Clips". This new API allows developers to provide interactive and dynamic content without installing applications. The API is directly linked to the QR Code reader in the builds 9to5Mac come into contact with. Users can scan a code linked to the app and interact directly from the cards that appear on the screen.

Suppose you obtained a QR Code that leads to a YouTube video, but you don't have the official app installed on your iPhone, for iOS 14 and the Clips API, you can scan the code and play the video on the floating card, displaying the native user interface instead of the web page.

Android has a similar feature called "Slices", which can display rich, dynamic, and interactive content from your app from within the Google Search app and later in other places like the Google Assistant.

Code in iOS 14 also hints that Apple is testing new features with OpenTable, Airbnb, DoorDash, PlayStation Second-Screen app and YouTube to implement new APIs, perhaps using their apps as examples in WWDC demonstrations.

Apple is widely expected to announce iOS 14 and three other operating systems at its WWDC event in June, which will be held in a new "online experience."
