Kuo: 'iPhone SE Plus' Postponed Until 2021, Potentially mmWave iPhone Too

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a report today detailing that Apple will postpone the release of “iPhone SE Plus” until the second half of 2021, and the mmWave iPhone 12, maybe delayed too.

Kuo starts off by saying Apple will "likely postpone" the launch of its rumored iPhone SE Plus from the first half of 2020 to the second half of 2021, while citied multiple economic and production factors, including the impact that the coronavirus had on Apple suppliers' production facilities.
We predicted that Apple would launch the new ‌iPhone‌ model in 1H21 in a previous report ("‌iPhone‌ supply chain to be 2020 top pick in the tech sector; key predictions for new ‌iPhone‌ product mixes in 2020 and 2021" [December 5, 2019]). However, we think that Apple will likely postpone the new model from 1H21 to 2H21.
The analyst insists that iPhone SE 2 pre-orders were higher than anticipated in the first week, which is beneficial to the growth of Apple's ecosystem. He forecasts iPhone SE shipments will hit between 12 million and 14 million units for the entirety of Apple fiscal third quarter, up from a previous estimate of 10 million units.

As for the iPhone 12, Kuo said that the 6.1/5.4-inch iPhone 12 could be mass-produced in September, but the iPhone 12 that supports millimeter-wave faces the risk of delay. He said that the millimeter-wave iPhone 12 had been delayed because the design of the AiP system (Antenna in the package) had revised at the beginning of April, and the relevant testing laboratory had also suspended verification operations.

Lastly, Kuo provided a projection of iPhone sales in Q2 in 2020: in the most negative scenario, Apple's iPhone shipments in the second quarter of this year will be 29-32 million units. Meanwhile, total iPhone shipments in 2020 will plunge by 10-15% or 165-175 million units.
