Apple will incorporate 5G technology in its 2020 iPhone lineup, including two 5G standards: the fastest mmWave (millimeter wave) and the slower but more widely distributed sub-6GHz.
However, mmWave 5G may be limited to the iPhone 12 Pro models, according to a report from Fast Company, with the technology may be limited to the largest and most expensive iPhone, the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.
It's reported that only the largest iPhone in the lineup has internal space to accommodate the antenna design required to deliver mmWave support, and this standard also demands greater battery power.
Fast Company believes that the iPhone 12 Pro Max sold only in the United States, South Korea, and Japan will support mmWave, as some countries do not currently have a complete mmWave network.
mmWave is currently the fastest version of 5G and can provide speeds up to 1Gb/s, considers the coverage is limited, because of the high deployment cost, its short-range is only suitable for urban areas.
Sub-6GHz is faster than average 4G LTE connections but slower than mmWave 5G. However, its range is longer, making it suitable for use in urban, suburban, and rural areas, and it is anticipated to become a broader version of 5G.
