Apple has today released the first beta of iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 updates for developers. The company also seeded the first beta version of macOS Big Sur 11.2, watchOS 7.4, and tvOS 14.5.
In iOS 14.5, Apple will begin to implement its App Tracking Transparency feature, which will require app developers to ask and obtain user permission to obtain its random advertising identifier to track users in apps and websites.
When users updated to iOS 14.5, Apple Watch will be able to unlock iPhones with Face ID support, that is, if the iPhone finds that the user is wearing a mask, the phone can be unlocked through the watch to avoid the interference of Face ID caused by wearing a mask.
Other features added in the iOS 14.5 Beta include the global support for 5G in Dual-SIM on the iPhone 12 model, AirPlay 2 support for Apple Fitness +, support for PlayStation 5 DualSense and Xbox Series X Handle, the ability to allow multiple people to use the same Apple Card account, Siri emergency call, Podcasts app design changes, emoji search on iPadOS 14.5, etc.
Meanwhile, macOS Big Sur 11.2 introduced several bug fixes:
- External displays may show a black screen when connected to a Mac mini (M1, 2020) using an HDMI to DVI converter- Edits to Apple ProRAW photos in the Photos app may not save- iCloud Drive could turn off after disabling the iCloud Drive Desktop & Documents Folders option- System Preferences may not unlock when entering your administrator password- Globe key may not display the Emoji & Symbols pane when pressed
watchOS 7.4 and tvOS 14.5, apparently, haven't added any cool features yet, aside from the implementation of Apple's App Tracking Transparency feature
