Code In iOS 13.4 Hints Apple To Add Over-The-Air Recovery Option For Devices

Apple is adding the ability to restore your iOS devices, Apple Watch, and HomePod without the need of a computer, references in the newly-released iOS 13.4 suggests, found by 9to5mac.

The hidden "OS Recovery" option will essentially allow for a restore to be conducted over-the-air or by connecting a device to another ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌ using a USB connection, which 9to5mac explains that it works the same way as Apple's Migration Tool - copies all of your files to your new Mac so that you don't have to copy your files manually.

For now, the one and only way to restore the firmware is to connect your devices to a computer, and that is inconvenient as certain people almost never use computers as much anymore and Apple thus far has made attempts to remove the need to operate iOS devices with computers.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a report last December that Apple could release a port-less iPhone as soon as 2021, he claims that the highest-end 2021 iPhone will ditch the Lightning port in favor of a "completely wireless experience. So it's possible today's findings would perhaps mean that Apple is considering to launch an iPhone without any ports in the next year or so.
