At the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Toyota announced that CarPlay will appear in its upcoming 2019 Avalon sedans. While Toyota isn't the only auto company making news. 2019 model trucks, hybrids, and hatchbacks with CarPlay have all been announced.
CarPlay is slated to be included as a part of Toyota’s Entune 3.0 system, which will appear alongside enhancements such as Wi-Fi Hotspot capability, Qi wireless charging, as well as Toyota’s Remote Connect with Smartwatch and Amazon Alexa Connectivity. It is worth to noted that Apple CarPlay will be standard across all 2019 Avalon models.
However, another Japanese automaker Honda shared last week that its Insight Prototype hybrid will be featured with CarPlay and be on display at the auto show. For latest hybrid, the infotainment system is said to work with both Apple and Google phones with Android Auto also supported, but no mention of Wireless CarPlay unfortunately.
From South Korea, Kia's third-generation Forte will also pack standard CarPlay with a built-in 8-inch screen and optional wireless charging that works in the new iPhones. Hyundai’s 2019 Veloster will include CarPlay standard with a 7-inch display and an optional 8-inch screen and wireless charging available as upgrades.
Back into USA, where the CarPlay will also be offered on new 2019 model RAM and Ford trucks on display this week. The new RAM 1500 packs a lot of technology into a big truck including CarPlay on an 8.4-inch or 12-inch display. As spotted by The Verge, the trucks will also feature optional wireless chargers.
