iPhone SE 2020 Components Cost Estimated To Be Around $217

Surely, many are drawn into the component cost of the iPhone SE 2020, after all, Apple's new affordable iPhone is very similar to the iPhone 8 in many ways...

Japanese research firm Fomalhaut Techno Solutions tore down the commercially available iPhone SE and compared the cost of the 2020 iPhone SE to the cost of the iPhone 8 at the time of sale. It was found that with the iPhone SE chipset being relatively new, the components cost for the new iPhone SE (64 GB storage capacity) is $217, which is lower than those for the iPhone 8.

The key to the major price drop is revealed in the display. The iPhone SE has a 4.7-inch LCD display about the same size and resolution as the iPhone 6 launched in 2014. The company has also brought down the cost of the camera by installing a sensor similar to the iPhone 11 main camera and about the same size as the iPhone 8.

Fomalhaut estimates that the iPhone SE’s cost rate stands at 54%, contrasted with the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 11’s cost rates of 38% and 48%, respectively.

The following are the interchangeable parts of the new iPhone SE and iPhone 8:
  • Screen
  • Camera
  • SIM card tray
  • Taptic Engine
  • Speaker
The new iPhone SE starts at $399. Though the components cost is only about $217, don’t forget that Apple also has to invest in marketing, research and development, and manufacturing.
