Kuo: AirPods 3 To Adopt Similar Design And Package Solution As AirPods Pro

Reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated in his latest research report to the investors that the design of AirPods 3 will be similar to AirPods Pro and uses a similar compact system-in-package (SiP) solution.

The report pointed out that the new AirPods 3 with a similar design to AirPods Pro is expected to be mass-produced in the first half of 2021, while AirPods 2 will end production in 1H21.

Kuo’s latest report stresses the need for SiP technology to integrate the audio features of the earbuds into a smaller casing. AirPods Pro' was launched in 2019 and has a distinct in-ear design than the standard AirPods', with shorter ear stems.

Kuo said in June that benefiting from the new iPhone in the second half of 2020 no including the wired headphones and the new AirPods 3 in 2021, it is estimated that the total AirPods shipments in 2021 will increase by approximately 28% year-on-year to 120 million units.

Lastly, he infers current-generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ part suppliers should see component shipments grow an estimated 50 percent to 100 percent year over year. Amkor, JCET, and Huanxu Electronics are in line to fulfill the SiP components, whilst Shin Zu Shing is expected to supply the ‌AirPods‌ case hinge.
