According to a report from Taiwanese media Economic Daily News, Apple plans to release an updated version of AirPods this spring that will be available in a new coating that supports wireless charging, as well as a black version. Apple supplier Inventec has now begun mass production of the new AirPods

The updated AirPods version was originally supposed to be released along with the AirPower wireless charging mat last year, however, as we all know that Apple delayed the launch of AirPower, which also led Apple to not release the new AirPods in time. But as AirPower finally got into production this year, the ultra-popular wireless headphone should be available very soon.

Design wise, the new AirPods will adopt a special matte coating design to enhance grip. Moreover, the new AirPods will also add black color for consumers to choose from, which makes the headphone available in both black and white. As for the price, Economic Daily News claimed that Apple will price it at $159, the same as the previous version.

Rumors have suggested Apple plans to announce its upcoming subscription service at the media event next month, and the company plans to only focus on service rather than hardware, therefore, we should expect Apple to launch the new AirPods via a press release, possibly introduces AirPower as well.
