Study Shows iPhone XR Was The Best-Selling iPhone Model In Q1 2019

According to a study conducted by research firm CIRP, it appears that iPhone XR was the best-selling iPhone models in the US during the first quarter of 2019, as it continues to dominate the US smartphone market, though it does have some impact on the average selling price, since the iPhone XR has the lowest price of the three iPhones that are released in 2018.

“iPhone XR continues to dominate US iPhone sales,” said Josh Lowitz, CIRP Partner and Co-Founder. “It remains the best-selling individual model again this quarter, after launch early in the December 2018 quarter. In the US, the newest iPhone models sold about as well as the newest models a year ago, at about 60% of total sales. Based on these trends, we estimate an Average Selling Price of around $800, a decrease from the previous quarter.”
The research firm found that iPhone XR accounted for 38% of US iPhone sales this quarter, ahead of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, with sales totaling 21% in three months. Also, the study points out that the percentage of iPhone buyers who paid up for increased storage grew to 38% last quarter from 33% in the year-ago quarter, while almost half of US iPhone buyers paid for iCloud storage.

This news isn't surprising at all, as Apple CEO Tim Cook had said that iPhone XR is the best-selling iPhone model since the day one it got launched. However, we are unclear how many units did they sell, as Apple no longer disclose unit sales data, plus this study is based on 500 precipitants.
