Apple Watch Series 5 To Feature OLED Display From Japan Display

Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out with his latest research report that claims the upcoming Apple Watch Series 5 models to feature OLED displays supplied by Japan Display, according to the Chinese information technology website ChinaZ.

Kuo's latest prediction is in line with a report by Reuters, published in early April, that Japan Display to supply OLED display for Apple Watch later this year. Nonetheless, Kuo forecasted that Japan Display will gradually improve its share of Apple Watch OLED display orders from 15-20 percent of orders in 2019 to 70-80 percent in 2021.

Looking forward to the growth momentum of Apple Watch, Kuo expects Apple Watch shipments to increase by 10% in 2019 and 20% in 2020 YoY. The analyst listed the following reasons as for why Apple Watch could see a shipment growth: (i) better health features, (ii) watchOS 6 now includes its own independent App Store, and (iii) continued battery life improvements.

Apple is likely to announce the Apple Watch Series 5 models next month alongside iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
