MacBook Pro Will Not Have Any Major Updates In 2018, Says Digitimes

Digitimes today reports that Apple currently has no plans to make any major upgrades to its MacBook Pro lineup in 2018. And the company is also said to reallocating MacBook Pro orders from Quanta to Foxconn in order to lower costs and reduce risks.

Apple first launched the modern MacBook Pro design back in 2016, so it's not unusual for the Cupertino firm to retain the same chassis design for several generations. "No major update" still means Apple can update the internals with better specs like adding a 32 GB RAM option alongside new 8th Generation CPUs.

We also have not heard about a major MacBook Pro update in the works from any other of the usual publications. So more of the significant changes like a return to the old keyboard design or addition of I/O other than what is there today (Thunderbolt 3 USB-C) is probably not on the cards for this year.

The sources revealed that Foxconn had been aggressively working to land more MacBook orders from Apple during the past few years by offering attractive quotes. Since Apple has not had a major upgrade to its MacBook product line since the releases of its new MacBook Pro devices at the end of 2016 and has no plan for one in 2018, the US-based vendor is planning to shift orders for models that are already in mass production to Foxconn to save costs and reduce risks.

Foxconn has reportedly been working to boost its chances of notebook orders from Apple by offering attractive quotes. Apple will therefore switch MacBook orders to Foxconn for models that are already in mass production. But Quanta is still expected to remain Apple's biggest supplier going into 2018.
