Lately, designer Hasan Kaymak created an iPhone XR 2 concept phone without any buttons and ports and the Notch. Compared to Apple's iPhone XR, which was just released, the biggest change to the iPhone XR 2 was that it didn't provide any physical buttons and ports, means that all wired connections were abandoned, according to the Concept Phones website.

It featured with a single camera like the current iPhone XR and implements iPhone XS-like camera technology with AI algorithms. The phone not only has a more energy-efficient lithium-ion battery that can last for several days but also adds a "magnetic battery" that can generate electricity by itself. Better, Touch ID was being introduced back, with this time is under the display.

Design wise, the edge-to-edge, true full screen, and buttonless iPhone is the straight version of Oppo Find X, which I personally think it’s the most beautiful smartphone ever made, its body is different than any other “ top-notch” flagship experience, so the so-called iPhone XR 2 Concept Phone will definitely get my fully attention. However, the things that’s unique from the Find X are the back panel and the operating system.

Well, we would not expect Apple to release the smartphone until 2020, as rumors already suggests that the company will continue embrace the notch design, and for a such title; iPhone XR 2, I think iPhone XF will be more sustainable, which the “F” stands for full-screen. Anyway, considering the overall design and specifications, Apple will very likely priced the smartphone above $1200 for starting price.

Ever since Apple has issued a statement that it's official existing from the wireless router business in April, the company still sold AirPort products have been discontinued, like the AirPort Extreme and the 2TB AirPort Time Capsule. However, these wireless routers are no longer available from Apple.com anymore.

Though you can't buy AirPort from the online store or retail locations, yet some refurbished devices that may continue to be available on the refurbished site and perhaps there are still little bit of stock in some third-party retailers such as Target and Best Buy. Instead AirPort, Apple now recommends you to buy a Linksys Velop mesh Wi-Fi system, best alternative to Apple's own wireless router.

Last time Apple refreshed its AirPort products goes way back to 2013 (Extreme and Time Capsule), As Bloomberg reported back in late 2016, Apple has begun shutting down its AirPort unit in early 2016, in an effort to "sharpen" its focus on the "consumer products that generate the bulk of its revenue." A good news is Applet to continue providing service for current AirPort Base Stations for at least the next five years.

While there are also a lot of newer routers that offers similar design from the AirPort products, such as the eeroNetgear Orbi, and so much more!

Apple updated its online store Certified Refurbished page this week. Compared to previous websites, this newly designed page uses larger images, and easier navigate different categories of refurbished products. In recent years, other parts of Apple.com have also begun to use many of the more modern designs, such as the Privacy and Apple ID page.

Following the update, Apple now reminds users next to the big picture: “Like new products backed by a one-year warranty and the Apple Certified Refurbished promise.” Scroll down, each Apple-certified refurbished product undergoes a rigorous refurbishment process, it also offers Free two day delivery, as well as the Applecare service and Special Financing option.
Every Apple Certified Refurbished product completes a rigorous refurbishment process that includes full testing that meets the same functional standards as new Apple products. Your refurbished device is truly “like new,” with special savings of up to 15%.
On the website, Apple also provides a more visible navigation for refurbished products, including Mac, iPad and clearance products. Below this navigation, Apple also lists a selection of offers, including the iPhone 7 and 8, iPad mini 4, 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and MacBook Pro models, as it tells users how much it can save by purchasing certain product.

Like last week, Apple has released updates on its 4 operating systems and apps today, including the iOS 12.1.1, macOS 10.14.2, tvOS 12.1.1, watchOS 5.1.2 to developers, as it announced new update its Final Cut Pro app, a macOS app that developed for video editing. We have summarized these updates in details below:

For the iOS 12.1.1 betas 3, which Apple just seeded hours ago, it reintroduced Live Photo for FaceTime app, meaning you can take Live Photo when you FaceTime other folks; you can now also use iPhone XR's Haptic Touch feature in Notification Center; give you an option to turn off Physical SIM if you prefers eSIM.

As far as other software updates concerned, there is no much to say other than mirror bug fixes or speed improvements. Like always, you can test these betas by downloading it via Apple's official Developer Center.

Final Cut Pro, today also got some exciting new features, such as the ability of support for third-party workflow extensions, enhance the experience when video editing, Shutterstock, for instance, allows you to add stock footage to your videos. Alongside third-party extension support, there's a new floating timecode window as well, and new noise reduction, which obviously reduce noise in low light footage.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is actively hiring engineers at Qualcomm headquarters in San Diego, they are looking for designers who can help the company develop iPhone wireless components and chips, a move that will further weaken Qualcomm, one of the largest chipmaker in the world, considering it's in battle in its dispute with Qualcomm on patent lawsuits.

In the past month, Apple has released 10 job postings in San Diego, California to find engineers to help the company research neural network engine artificial intelligence processors and wireless modems. It's the first time that Apple has publicly recruited these types of talent in the area for such thing.
This month, Apple published 10 job listings on its website for chip design-related positions located in the city, marking the first time the Cupertino, California-based technology giant has publicly recruited for such roles in the Southern California hotbed for chip design. Apple is advertising for engineers to work on multiple types of chip components, including engineers to work on the company’s Neural Engine artificial intelligence processor and wireless chips.
It was reported that Apple was developing its own wireless chip for future iPhone models, however, so far, Apple still relies on companies such as Qualcomm and Intel to develop such technologies. After the battle with Qualcomm (not over yet), Apple chose Intel as the main wireless modern supplier of iPhone XS, XS Max, as well as iPhone XR, and expected it to supply these moderns in next year.

The Paris Apple Store is based in a "Haussmann-era apartment building," however, the company has added its own standard design elements it also has copied some historic touches: using Burgundy stone, and lining the upper floors with French oak parquet, which further highlight the interconnected spaces of the Parisian apartment. Apple Mac mini does not offer any accessories, which means we need to purchase additional monitors, keyboards, and mouse after purchase. Today, Astropad has released an accessory called Luna Display that transforms the iPad Pro to a Mac mini display, and even better: it's a touchable screen!

Luna Display was once made the iPad as a secondary screen, but this time since the Mac mini itself had no display, so they make the iPad now the main display. Astropad also said that this time, the Mac mini supports iPad Pro display the company says it's like a "whole new product", as it can run macOS on the iPad, however. you will also need the Astropad app, other than Luna Display dongle.
This setup truly combines the best of both Mac and iPad, with the processing power of the Mac Mini and the edge-to-edge retina display of the iPad. Using Luna, we're able to take full advantage of every pixel on the iPad at full retina resolution. It offers more ways to interact with your macOS too, where you can seamlessly flow from mouse, to keyboard, to Apple Pencil, to touch interactions. And since Luna runs over WiFi, you have the flexibility of a completely wireless workspace. It all just works.
To do this, you need a dongle for Luna Display ($79.99), a companion app, any kind of iPad (though the new one is definitely the best for it), a mouse, a keyboard, and a stable WiFi network. You can purchase the Luna Display website for $80 on the website, and you can download the app for free on the App Store.

HomePod, Apple's first smart speaker that introduced at WWDC last year, priced at $349, it's indeed the sky-high price that pulls many users away from purchasing the high-end handset. However, the company now offers HomePod with $299 price tag, although it is a refurbished product, but the speaker still received good care of it and functioning like the new one.

Refurbished HomePod is available in both white and space gray for $299, a decent $50 discount off of the regular price. Apple confirmed that its T2 security chip may block some third-party repairs for Mac users. according to The Verge. As mentioned in the documentation, any Mac equipped with a T2 security chip, the AST 2 system configuration software must be running to complete the entire repair process, if the step skipped, the macOS will not be power on and the repair will not be completed.

Simply put, the new generation of T2 chip Macs need to run a diagnostic, including motherboards and Touch ID sensors. However, Apple did not announce which components required software diagnostic. The devices with T2 chip includes MacBook, iMac Pro, Mac mini, and the new MacBook Air.
For Macs with the Apple T2 chip, the repair process is not complete for certain parts replacements until the AST 2 System Configuration suite has been run. Failure to perform this step will result in an inoperative system and an incomplete repair.
Apple T2 security chip, mainly focus own security, it not only protects the information of the Touch ID, but also ensures that the software loaded during the boot process will not be tampered with. At the same time, the chip is also featured with a solid state drive controller that supports real-time data encryption to secure everything you store on a solid state drive.

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has approved a new patent from Apple, according to the patent, Apple intends to develop a "real full-screen" design with a camera and a must-have sensor array completely put together in a small cutout, the patent applications was filled on June 27 this year.

Apple specifically summarized it as an exclusive solution to how to achieve "real full-screen", which mentioned how to hide the camera inside the panel, this solution is especially suitable for products that uses all glass such as the LCD displays. As you can see from the picture below, the device has a cutout in the upper right corner of the screen, and then inserts those sensors into the cutout.

From the patent description, which also talked about what materials might be used to make such cutout. Apple claims that aluminosilicate glass (such as Corning's DVTS glass) will be a glass material suitable for the cutout. Other glass materials include but are not limited to soda-calcium, borosilicate, etc.

Of course, the technology is also designed for other products, including laptops (ie MacBook), as well as tablets (such as iPad). Samsung and LG also filled similar patents. In any case, whether Apple will implement a "true full screen" design in the new iPhones in 2019, we have to wait another whole year to find out!

Ming-Chi Kuo's latest research note apparently cutting his shipment estimates for the iPhone XR down to 70 million units, which previously was 100 million. He lists several factors such as the ongoing trade war with China, users' expectation for a affordable device, as well as competition from other smartphone brand like Huawei, he believes that the decline will be offset by higher demand for iPhone XS.

We have reduced our iPhone XR shipment estimation from 100mn units to 70mn during the new product lifecycle (4Q18–3Q19) for the following reasons: 1) Negative impacts on consumer confidence from the trade war, especially in the Chinese market, 2) expectations from more users for more affordable XR or the dual-camera and narrower bezel design to be provided at the current price level, and 3) competition from Huawei's Mate 20 series. We have reduced our XR shipment estimations for 4Q18, 1Q19, and 2Q19 by 30–35%, 25–30%, and 25–30% to 30–35, 20–25, and 10–15mn units, respectively.
The analyst also reducing his overall iPhone shipment forecasts by 15–20 percent for the first quarter of 2019. Kuo also lowered his first-quarter estimate to only 47–52 million from a previous range of 55–60 million. Since Apple has stopped reporting iPhone sales, it will be tough to find out that how many they sold and made how much money from it.

Impacted by the news, Apple's stock today isn't pretty, as matter of fact, the stock dropped 4% as of right now, its market cap also went to from 1.05 trillion a couple weeks ago to $930 billion at the current time.

Time has come to the last two months of 2018, all of Apple's new products that should be released this year are probably begins to ship to users. Like last year, there's also three new iPhone models this year, all of which use a controversial "Notch" screen. However,, their long-awaited iPhone SE 2 is nowhere to be found, considering it's been rumored for nearly one year.

The small-screen iPhone was initially thought to be announced at the media event in the spring of 2018, and then it was passed to WWDC 2018, which was in June. The remaining hope were all down to the September Event. In fact, since the beginning of 2018, few sources pointed out that Apple's 4-inch new iPhone SE 2 project has been abandoned.

There are plenty of signs in this year that the new iPhone SE 2 may be available to users, not only the sources of the supply chain told us so, but also a couple of CAD renderings, and cases from accessories manufacturers. Among those, the most appealing one should be the iPhone SE 2 rendering from Olixar, who makes cases for iPhone devices, it appears look like the hybrid of iPhone 5s + iPhone X.

Despite all these rumors and leaks about the iPhone SE 2, the hope of a new iPhone SE has completely vanished. But why? First, Apple is "very busy" this year, and the internal development resources are expensive. The other is to sell the three new-generation iPhone models with more expensive prices and larger screen sizes, which could cause unnecessary confusion.

Will the iPhone SE 2 never debut again?. Well no, there are analysts' predictions, supply chain leaks, as well as resources from accessory vendors, etc., indicating that iPhone SE 2 may have been in Apple's plan. Therefore, we could said iPhone SE 2 was not entirely dead, but it may have been postponed until 2019. Even Apple will launch it, the screen might be bigger than the current one.

Apple has confirmed that there are problems with the 128 GB and 256 GB Solid State Drives (SSDs) used in the 2017 13-inch MacBook Pro (non-touch bar) device, which can result in data loss and hard drive failure. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with the affected hard drive was sold between June 2017 and June 2018.

Apple or Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will repair the affected hard drive for free. Apple recommends repairing your hard drive as soon as possible. If the customer has encounter issues, the company will send them an email about the program. Be sure to back up your data before it gots troubleshooting, as your hard drive will be erased during the process, which will take roughly an hour.

On the other hand, Apple has determined that some of the iPhone X's display may have touch problems due to a possible component failure on the iPhone X display module. For example, the display does not respond or intermittently responds to touch actions or will respond even if you didn't tap the screen.

Apple and its Authorized Service Provider will replace the display module for free for eligible devices. Ahead of the repair, customers are recommended to back their Phones to iTunes or iCloud, as they warn that other damage would occur during the process. For users that already replaced the display, they can contact Apple Support for a refund.

TF International analysts Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Modified PI (MPI) will replace Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) to become the mainstream antenna technology for the new iPhones in 2019. The Apple analyst has listed serval reasons that the company plan to do, and said it will pave the way for upcoming 5G technology.

According to Kuo, the first reason is that Apple is losing in bargaining for LCP raw material supplies, Secondly, the LCP antenna is really complicated to produce, plus LCP is brittle, which is not ideally for manufacturers to gain yield rate. Furthermore, based on current technical limitations, if you want to improve the LCP production yield, it may reduce antenna performance. Last but not the least, MPI antenna performance is improved by fluoride formulation, and higher frequency performance at 10-15 GHz is much comparable to LCP.

Kuo expects the shipment of LCP antennas for the new iPhone is expected to decline by more than 70% in the second half of 2019. The new iPhones (XS Max, XS and XR) currently uses 6 LCP antennas. In next year, however, Apple is likely to use 4 MPI antennas and 2 LCP antennas for better cellular usage on 2019 iPhones (6.5-inch OLED, 5.8-inch OLED, and 6.1-inch LCD).

MPI and LCP antennas are expected to coexist in the 5G era, but the market will have high growth expectations for LCP materials. The market is currently confident that LCP antennas demand will grow significantly due to the arrival of the 5G era. During the transition time, it will still consist of MPI and LCP antennas.

Apple teamed up with Amazon to sell Apple products such as iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch on the Amazon.com website in countries like the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, as well as India, according to a report by CNET. An Amazon spokesperson said that the deal is designed to improve the user experience:

Amazon is constantly working to enhance the customer experience, and one of the ways we do this is by increasing selection of the products we know customers want. We look forward to expanding our assortment of Apple and Beats products globally
The partnership will take into effect rather sooner than later so Amazon will sell newly-released products to the customers, products including iPhone XS, XR, Apple Watch Series 4, the 2018 Mac mini model, and a selection of Beats headphones. It’s understood that these products will be available on Apple-authorized Amazon resellers.

For now, all Apple products lists on Amazon from independent sellers, by the time when Amazon begin selling Apple products, all third-party retailers needs to become Apple authorized resellers, in which they need to apply for it. And they will have to make sure to go on sale at regular prices.

Apple released the 2018 version of iPad Pros couple weeks ago, it is indeed the first iPad with a USB-C port. After replacing the lightning port, it can bring faster data transfer to the iPad Pro. It can connect an external 4K or 5K display, a camera and other devices, and even enable the ability to charge iPhone. Charging. So how much power can the iPad Pro give the iPhone when charging.

Tests show when charging an iPhone, the voltage and current are 4.9V/1.5A and is 7.5W (iPhone XS comes standard with a 5W charging adapter). When connecting the C-FORCE 3K display, there is no problem in powering the display. At this time, the charging voltage and current are 4.9V/1.3A and the power is 6.8W.

Speaking to charging, Apple has confirmed that the new Apple Pencil does not support Qi wireless charging standard, in which means the vast majority of wireless chargers can't charging the accessories. The Apple Pencil can be magnetically attached to the device for automatic charging and pairing.

As the most appealing iPad in Apple's history, the iPad Pro packed with a variety of new technology additions. The tablet uses a 12.9-inch full-screen, Face D, and built-in A12X chip, the industrial leading ARM processor. This can definitely rival Microsoft's Surface Pro lineup.

More than a month has passed since the release of iOS 12, there's no news in the jailbreak community. However, It appears now someone is aiming to bring the dream of jailbreak back again, an iOS hacker called SemVoigtländer is developing a mobile browser-based jailbreak tool that allows users to jailbreak iOS 12.0.1 and will support iOS versions from iOS 4.0 to iOS 12.0.1.

Since it's in a JailbreakMe style, SemVoigtländer calls the tool as JailbreakMeUnified, if you interested in this tool, you need to make sure that your device is running iOS 12.0.1, due to the fact that Apple could soon stop signing iOS 12.0.1, as the company already released iOS 12.1 to public users plus they are in the works of iOS 12.1.1, which would be pushed in the near future.

All in all, if you want to jailbreak your device, make it's on iOS 12.0.1 or earlier version, those of you that are rocking iOS 12.1 on your iPhone or iPad is recommend to downgrade it to iOS 12.0.1 by downloading iOS 12.0.1 IPSW for your device and then installing it manually through iTunes. You sure can check the process by visit JailbreakMeUnified official GitHub page.

The iPhone XR doesn't have a pressure-sensitive screen, meaning it lacks 3D Touch, Apple introduced a way to replace 3D Touch to a certain extent, which is Haptic Touch, long press certain action to simulate 3D Touch, such as long press the space bar on the keyboard for the touchpad mode, and long press the flashlight on the lock screen for flash.

However, the Haptic Touch is still very limited, for instance, the Notification Center's Peek and Pop can not able to view richer notification content. Because of that, in the latest iOS 12.1.1 Beta 2, the Haptic Touch seems to have expanded. on iPhone XR, you now just need to long press the notification banner to see more content, which previously requires the user to swipe left and then click View.

The difference between Haptic Touch and the 3D Touch is response time, 3D Touch gestures can be done immediately, while the Haptic Touch requires a long press, which results in a long delay. Nevertheless, the long-press to view Notification feature also not available on iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, and the iPod Touch 6.

We should expect iOS 12.1.1 to be released likely end of the month or early of next month

After a long wait, Apple finally updated the MacBook Air, what secrets are hidden in this laptop? iFixit has completed the detailed teardown of MacBook Air. The New MacBook Air has new mold models of A1932 and 3184. Many of the components in the new MacBook Air are modular in design and easy to replace.

The teardown of the MacBook Air is very simple. Unscrew the back screw and you can see the inside of the chassis. Secure the motherboards are only 6 screws and some connectors. Even though the MacBook Air's motherboard is tiny, there are many chips on it: Intel's i5 processor, Apple's security T2 chip, 128GB flash drive, and Thunderbolt 3 controller.

However, the keyboard is integrated into the case. If it is broken, it needs to be replaced as a whole, and the memory can't be upgraded by itself. The battery, on the other hand, did not use the adhesives, rather just some adhesive tabs, easy to replace! The speaker is not glued to the back case, so once the tabs pulled out, you can replace the speaker straightforward.

MacBook Air's Retina display is quite similar to MacBook Pro, but does not support wide color gamut, while the maximum brightness is only 300 nits, whereas Pro is 500 nits. In general, iFixt give the repair score of 3 out of 10, meaning to repair this machine is not really fun experience after all.

In September of the year, the E6 production line of LG plant was approved by Apple, the company hopes that LG can mass-produce OLED screens. Yet, LG's mass production ramp rate doesn't seems to meet Apple's demand, according to South Korea's ETNews.

After months of testing, deliberation, and failed mass production commitments, LG has finally begun mass production of OLED screens for Apple's new iPhone. LG has finally become the second OLED panel supplier for new iPhones after Samsung, breaking Samsung monopoly situation. However, LG could only produce no more than 400,000 OLED screens this year.

South Korean analysts said that Apple should offer LG's OLED screen with a price of $90, relatively speaking, the cost of Samsung screen is about $100, so analysts believe that only then LG can be included in the Apple's supply chain list as soon as possible. LG is expected to shipping these OLED screen likely next month.

It is unclear what size the panels supplied by LG Display will be, either is 5.8-inch or 6.5-inch sizes. Though the South Korea headquartered company already produced OLED screens for Apple Watches, most of the orders from Apple gets taken by Samsung, one of its biggest rival.

Due to the time zone, users in Australia and New Zealand are always the first get the new products that Apple sells on launch day, which this time is the new iPad Pro, MacBook Air and Mac mini. Since there are no Apple stores in New Zealand, Australian users can get products faster because they can go to the retail stores. As time flies, North America users will get it at 8:00 AM EST.

According to Apple website, the iPad Pro orders went out quickly after it was announced, large due to the fact that it got redesigned; slim bezels and nearly edge-to-edge LCD Liquid Retina display. Also, it is the most powerful tablet ever, A12X processor offers up to 35% in performance and 90% in graphic improvements, as it also featured with USB-C port, Face ID, Apple Pencil with wireless charging, as well as the ability to charge an iPhone.

As for Mac Mini, it comes in a space gray Finish, 4 or 6-Core Intel i3 processor, up To 64GB RAM, it has a maximum of 2TB storage, delivers speed of up to five times faster than previous Mac minis and 4 times faster than the previous Mac mini in SSD. Mac mini also includes 4 USB-C ports, plus the T2 chip features an SSD controller with on-the-fly data encryption.

Finally, the 2018 MacBook Air, which every part of it has been redesigned and reengineered. The laptop featured with new Retina display that provides up to 4X of increases in resolution. It also supports Touch ID fingerprinting and is equipped with a T2 security chip. Furthermore, there is a new third-generation butterfly keyboard, a Force Touch trackpad, and new Stereo Speakers.

The redesigned Apple Pencil can be magnetically attached to the side of the 2018 iPad Pro for wireless charging. Accessories manufacturer Speck has confirmed that the company's first case for the latest iPad Pro does not support Apple Pencil's wireless charging and says many of its competitors will do the same,

Speck says that its 11-inch and 12.9-inch Balance Folio and Presidio PortFolio covers for the 2018 new iPad Pro do not currently support wireless charging of Apple Pencil, as do most of the cover cases on the market. But they are working something that provides full availability of the device, which would be released in early 2019.
“Our BalanceFolio and Presidio ProFolio cases for the new 2018 iPad Pro 11” & 12.9” currently inhibit wireless charging for the Apple Pencil, as do most protective cases on the market. We are designing product updates to provide full usability of the device
Obviously, this is not just a problem with Speck, all of the new iPad Pro cases require an cutout for the second-generation Apple Pencil so it can attached to it and wireless charging it. At present, the 2018 iPad Pro has not yet been delivered to consumers, we need wait and see how accessories makers solve this issue.

The Apple Watch Series 4 not only gets 40% larger display area but also introduced new 40 mm and 44 mm sizes, to take full advantage of the new size and the display, Apple redesigned the entire interface to show more information and more detailed content. The infographic watchface designed just for that, so you add up to eight complication.

Once users upgraded to iOS 12.1.1 and watchOS 5.1.1, there will be 7 new Apple-developed apps that support the Apple Watch's infographic watchface. New apps include Home, Mail, Maps, iMessages, News, Phone and Remote. Currently, in the iPhone Watch app, you can choose to add these apps, but it won't show on Apple Watch.

The issue here is that they were plan to release these complication later updates, however, because of the bricking bug that many user experienced, Apple quickly rushed to push watchOS 5.1.1 without noticing that they also leaked these complications, so it's likely that it will be debuted in next update. Although we didn't see the new AirPods at October Event held a week ago, Apple may still planning to debut the second-generation of AirPods likely early of next year or this year via press release, according to the new AirPods listings that were added to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group's regulatory database on November 1st.

We can see on the list that the unreleased AirPods have model numbers A2031 and A2032, correspond to a left AirPod and a right AirPod, both of which have completed the Bluetooth Qualification Process. Furthermore, the wireless headphone appears to have Bluetooth 5.0 built-in, so that means you can still connect devices with Bluetooth pairing at faster rate.

It's been long-rumored that Apple is prepared to launch second-generation AirPods with supports for hands-free "Hey Siri" feature. In fact, on September event, Apple showed the AirPods already support the feature. We are expecting to see a new AirPods wireless charging case come out, possibly alongside AirPower wireless charging mat.

According to data provided by market research firm Kantar Worldpanel, strong sales of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max at the end of the third quarter helped Apple gained a share growth in the US, Australia and China smartphone markets.

Early sales of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models in the US are decent, which is good news for Apple, coupled with continued strong growth of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. At the same time, the iPhone 8 is the best-selling iPhone in the US this quarter, accounting for 9.4% of the smartphone market. With the release of the iPhone XR, Kantar expects Apple's market share to rise further at the end of the year.

Apple's growth rate in Australia is 3.8%, while in China is 1.3%. However, the iPhone's share in the European market fell by 1.6%, with a growth of only 0.5% in Germany and a 4.1% decline in Spain. According to Kantar Worldpanel, this is related to fierce competition from Chinese brands, especially Huawei and Xiaomi.

It is worth mentioning that although Chinese brands have weakened Apple's market share, according to Kantar Worldpanel, brands such as Sony and LG are the most affected. In addition, due to the delay in the launch of the iPhone XR, so it's not included in the list, instead, its impact will be reflected in the next quarter's data.

However, a report from Nikkei suggest the sales of iPhone XR doesn't look good at all, in fact, Apple has canceled additional production plan due to the "disappointing demand". Still, this needs to be taken grant of salt, as they don't have good track records in recent years.

Apple is officially launching the Apple Pay officially in Germany, according to the Apple Pay German website, and confirmed that the supported banks includes the Boon, Comdirect, Edenred, Fidor Bank, Hanseatic Bank and Vim Pay, as well as Visa, American Express.

Banks such as HVB and Bunq have sent emails to customers announcing that they will immediately support Apple Pay. As early as last year, there were rumors that Apple Pay to debut in Germany, but it has not become a reality since it has been working to establish deals over fees and other factors with German banks.

In addition to Germany, the popular mobile payment service also available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Jersey, New Zealand. Russia, San Marino, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, as well as Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, UK, USA, and Vatican City.

Windows PCs have supported eye-tracking technology for some time. It seems that Apple is likely to consider introducing this technology as well. According to a patent called "Gaze detection in a 3D mapping environment," in the future, users will no longer need the mouse, using the Mac in a radically different way.

The patent was filed in September 2017 and described how the technology will recognize a user's gaze, performs segmentation to extract the target, and then determines the gaze to an action on the screen. The patent also explains that a possible tracking system can capture the movement of other parts of the user's body, including the head and hand, then input it into a device to help the user select an operation, and wants the feature to differentiate itself from the current user interface:
Many different types of user interface devices and methods are currently available. Common tactile interface devices include a computer keyboard, a mouse, and a joystick. Touchscreens detect the presence and location of a touch by a finger or other object within the display area. Infrared remote controls are widely used, and wearable hardware devices have been deployed,
Any Mac that integrates the tracking feature will be very popular without any question. Apple's latest devices tend to integrate more internal adjustments rather than revolutionary breakthroughs. As always, these patents may not be a reality, nice to know it's there though.

At the end of last month, the iPhone XR, although the price is relatively "cheap", the iPhone XR does not shrink in terms of core configurations, so there is naturally no problem in entering top performance rankings. Now, Antutu released the iOS performance rankings for October 2018 based on the statistics from the back-end database.

The iPhone XS Max was overtaken by the iPhone XS, the latter scored an average of 353,475, while the XS Max's average score was 352,076. In the meantime, the iPhone XR, which was just on sale, ranked third with an average score of 335,779, with a gap of nearly 20,000 points compared to the two other phones.

However, iPhone XR has the difference in memory, processor frequency and so on compared to iPhone XS series, there's no gap whatsoever. The two iPad Pros with A10X processors are ranked four & five, while last year's iPhone X with A11 is closely behind these two tablets: the first generation of 12.9-inch iPad Pro and iPad (2018).

It is probably the last time that the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR claims the top 3 spots since the new generation of iPad Pro equipped with A12X will be launched this Friday, its hardware specifications have a significant improvement over A12, so wait and see.

IDC analysts said in a research report that Apple continues to lead the global tablet market, although iPad sales fell in the latest quarterly earnings, and compared to the overall market's 8.6% decline in the third quarter, the iPad didn't lose too much market share.

Apple announced in its quarterly earnings report on Friday that it sold 9.7 million iPads in the third quarter, a decrease from the 10.3 million units in the third quarter of 2017. Despite a drop of about 6% in sales, it is still much higher than other competitors on the market. IDC believes that because of the iPad introduced back in March, it help drive sales of the tablets.
The refreshed $329 iPad with Pencil support that launched in late March continued to drive volume although it was unable to maintain the same momentum from the third quarter of 2017 as that was the first time in a while that Apple had released a lower cost iPad. iPad Pro saw year-on-year declines in anticipation of a refresh at the beginning of the fourth quarter, which bodes well for Apple through the end of the year.
Apple's share in tablet market was 26.6%, up from 25.9% in the same period last year. The increase in Apple's market share was attributed to the decline of other rivals in the market. On the IDC list, Apple is still far ahead of its primary rival Samsung, which has sold 5.3 million tablet in the third quarter of 2018, with a market share of 14.6%.

According to the report from Fast Company, Apple will release the first iPhone with 5G chip in 2020,  an anonymous source says Apple plans to use Intel's 8161 baseband chip on the 2020 iPhone product lineup, and Intel will become the exclusive supplier of 5G chips.

The upcoming 8161 chip will be built by Intel's 10nm process. It is said that Intel is currently testing a prototype of the 8161, the 8160 chip, which will be designed to use on the 5G iPhone prototype. Yet, the source also said that Apple was not happy with Intel recently as they could not successfully solve the heat issue and poor battery life of the 8160 chip.
Many wireless carriers, including Verizon and AT&T in the U.S., will initially rely on millimeter-wave spectrum (between 30 gigahertz and 300 Ghz) to connect the first 5G phones. But millimeter-wave signal requires some heavy lifting from the modem chips, our source explains. This causes the release of higher-than-normal levels of thermal energy inside the phone-so much so that the heat can be felt on the outside of the phone.
Although not really satisfied with Intel, Apple did not intend to settle the relationship with Qualcomm and restart the chip supply negotiations. Instead, Apple began contracting with MediaTek as a Plan B, and once Intel couldn't solve the issues, the company will switch to them instead. We should expect the first 5G smartphone coming out next year.

According to few reddit users, popular music stream service Spotify will finally coming to Apple Watches as the public testing program available right now via Apple's TestFlight app, however, the exact time frame has not announced yet, perhaps later this month at earliest.

The upcoming Spotify's watchOS app will uses Apple's internal named StreamKit framework that will enable cellular Apple Watch models to receive data from third-party apps. The watchOS app looks like very basic, it just shows the app's icon, playback controls, and a toggle for shuffle mode. As you might guess, it doesn't support Offline mode for now.

These tester also says the app has yet to be optimized for 40mm and 44mm sized Apple Watch Series 4 models. Still today, Spotify is the most popular Music app on App Store, the music streaming service now has over 87 million paid subscribers, twice the amount that Apple Music has, which was at 43.5 million, though the figure hasn't update in a while.

Apple removed has 11 Mac App Store categories, leaving only 10 categories in the current category tab. After the release of macOS Mojave in September, the Mac App Store offers 21 categories. The categories that Apple removed include: Finance, Lifestyle, Sports, Weather, Medical, Travel, Education, Reference, Entertainment, Health & Fitness, and News.

The remaining 10 categories include: Business, Developer Tools, Games, Graphics & Design, Music, Photography, Productivity, Social Networking, Utilities, as well as Video. According to a Twitter user who asked why the Mac App Store no longer showing all of 21 categories, Apple Support respond that this is a expected behavior, so Apple did that for purpose.

When a developer submits an app to the Mac App Store, they can choose between primary and secondary categories. The primary categories are important for app discovery, as users often find apps by category when they browse the Mac App Store or search.

At the moment, it's unclear why Apple is removing the Mac App Store category. The Apple Developer Documentation page has not changed and is still in shows 21 categories.

The performance of the new 2018 iPad Pro has surfaced in the Geekbench database. The performance of the new 8-core A12X bionic chip is absolutely powerful, Apple said the new iPad Pro delivers up to 90 percent faster multi-core performance compared to the previous-generation models, it even comparable to the newest 15-inch MacBook Pro!

The new iPad Pro A12X chip has a single-core score of 5,025 and a multi-core score of 18,106, which is the fastest iPad in history. This result can even be compared to the 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro (with Intel's 6-core Core i7 chip). Though the single-score of A12X roughly the same as A12, the multi-core far better than the already-fast A12 chip.

On camera, the powerful tablets didn't improve but rather falls even behind than last year's models. The 2018 iPad Pro is arguably new and upgraded, with the exception of camera configuration. The new 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pro's camera specs are not as strong as the previous 10.5-inch models: It lacks optical image stabilization (OIS) feature, and uses five-element lens taher than six-element lens.

The reasons behind it is the fact that they slim the new iPads down to just 5.9 mm thickness, they don't want the camera bump so bad, also a reason why they removed the headphone jack. Overall, the design is what the modern tablet suppose to be.

Apple has updated its list of "vintage and obsolete products list " this week and confirmed that from October 30th, the iPhone 5 became an vintage product in the US and Turkey, and obsolete products in other countries. according to Japanese blog Mac Otakara.

Vintage means if an iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Mac product is no longer in production for more than five years but less than seven years, while obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than 7 years ago. Whether it's vintage or obsolete, the product will longer receive services from Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

The iPhone 5 was a milestone product back in the day, because it's the first iPhone that use a larger screen, as models prior to the iPhone 5 used a 3.5-inch screen. It's also the first Apple smartphone to support LTE and first to include a Lightning port instead of 30-pin port. Oh, by the way, the iPhone 5 is the first to have 8-megapixel rear camera lens.

For iPhone 5, what memories do you have?

Right after it released iOS 12.1, macOS 10.14.1, and tvOS 12.1 to the public, Apple just seeded its first beta of iOS 12.1.1, as they also released the first beta of macOS 10.14.2 and tvOS 11.2. To install these updates, you are required to get a proper developer profile, from there to install it via Software Update in the Settings app.

iOS 12.1.1 reintroduces the ability to take a Live Photo while on a FaceTime call, Apple also tweaked bottom bar that includes quick access buttons for muting a call and flipping the camera in the FaceTime app. Additionally, it fixes bugs and brings speed improvements.

Meanwhile, iOS 12's adoption continues climbing, in fact, Apple's App Store support page for developers shows that 63% of devices that introduced last four years are running iOS 12, whereas 60% of the all devices powered by the mobile operating system.

For iOS devices released in the past 4 years, the iOS 11 installation rate is 30%, and the earlier iOS versions' adoption rate remains 7%. Among all active iOS devices, the iOS 11 installation rate is at 29%, whereas 11% of the iOS devices running earlier versions such as iOS 10, iOS 9, etc. The rose of the iOS 12 adoption rate likely due to the launch of iPhone XR.

Based on that, AnandTech suggests (and Intel confirmed) that the new MacBook Air is powered by a chip that Intel has not announced, the 7W Y-series Amber Lake chip or aka Core i5-8210Y. The new MacBook Air now uses a low-power Y-series chip, which means that the performance of the laptop is quite powerful.
