Apple Adds Option To Download iOS Updates Over 5G For 2020 iPhones

According to a supporting document released this week, Apple has introduced the option of using 5G data to download iOS updates on the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

To download iOS updates via 5G, users must enable the "Allow More Data on 5G" mode in the Settings app under Cellular> Data Mode. Apple said that this mode can also deliver higher quality video and FaceTime calls, and allows the third-party apps to use more cellular data to enhance the experience when connected to a 5G network.

Unfortunately, on all previous-gen iPhones and iPhone 12 models connected to an LTE network, a Wi-Fi connection is still required to download iOS updates.

Apple’s support document also confirms that when using iPhone 12 in dual-SIM mode, no other versions support 5G except for the Chinese versions. However, Apple plans to add the 5G dual-SIM mode on other countries’ versions later this year.
