Latest On iPhone 12: Reverse Wireless Charging Support, 5GHz Hotspot, And Scratch Test

iPhone 12 May Support Reverse Wireless Charging For Accessories

According to an FCC document, iPhone 12 may support reverse wireless charging for accessories, but this feature is not available yet. In the document, Apple mentioned that the 2020 iPhones support at least one Apple accessory for reverse wireless charging capability.

Bloomberg believes that the iPhone 12 may support reverse wireless charging for the new AirPods, and the new AirPods will support MagSafe, allowing the AirPods charging case to be magnetically fixed on the back of the iPhone 12.

Since 2019, there are rumors that iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will support reverse wireless charging. At that time, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that this feature has been shelved indefinitely due to charging efficiency issues.

iPhone 12 Allows Personal Hotspot Over 5GHz

When iPhone 12 is used as a personal hotspot for Macs, the 5GHz WiFi band can be used. The previous iPhone could only use the 2.4GHz band. On all iPhone 12 models, personal hotspot over 5GHz is turned on by default, as noted by Aaron Zollo.

In Settings, under Personal Hotspot, a new "Maximize Compatibility" option has been added. After it is turned on, it is 2.4GHz WiFi, and when it is turned off, it is 5GHz WiFi. Apple suggests that if the 5GHz WiFi band is turned on, it may slow down the Internet connection speed on the iPhone.

Ceramic Shield On iPhone 12 Still Scratches At Mohs Hardness Level 6

Both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are featured with the new Ceramic Shield display technology. Apple said that the tech greatly increases the durability of the iPhone 12 lineup displays.

JerryRigEverything has put the display of an iPhone 12 Pro into a series of tests and found that the device will still be scratched at Mohs hardness level 6, similar to other smartphones. However, compared with the previous iPhones, the iPhone 12 Pro has lighter scratches, but there is no huge improvement.
