According to Chinese publication ifeng report (via TNW), a Taiwanese iPhone 8 Plus owner has claimed that her device split open while being charged with the supplied cable and plug adapter. She posted photos which show damage consistent with a swollen battery. While a Japanese owner has posted similar photos of his device, which he says arrived in this state.

The phone belonged to a Ms. Wu, who recently renewed her phone contract and purchased a 64GB rose gold iPhone 8 Plus.

The issue emerged five days after purchasing the phone. Wu placed her phone on charge, using the supplied cable and adaptor. After three minutes, she reported seeing the front panel bulge, and eventually lift completely from the device.

According to multiple Taiwanese outlets, the phone was later recovered by the carrier, and has since been shipped to Apple for analysis.

A report from Taiwan states the iPhone 8 Plus uses the same battery manufacturer, Amperex Technology Limited (ATL), as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. ATL is one of the world's biggest smartphone battery makers and has provided Apple with batteries for many years. Because of the Note 7 battery issues, Samsung announced that it has ditched the supplier for its upcoming flagship devices.

While any incident affecting a new iPhone model is bound to attract media attention, it’s worth noting the usual disclaimers. First, any device manufactured in the millions will include some faulty models – the real news would be if this were not the case. Second, investigations into charging-related incidents often reveal that a third-party charger was used, and so on.

Do you want the wireless charging that’s built into the iPhone 8 and iPhone X into your iPhone 7 or earlier, since you are not planning on upgrading this year? There's Good news, you can add this feature (including a charging base) to your iPhone 7 or earlier models for as low as $20.

Just like 9to5Mac's Jeff noted in his iPhone 8 review, one of the biggest downsides of wireless charging is slow charging. Apple plans to launch a software update in future, that this software will enable 7.5W charging, it's not exactly fast, at least it’s better than the current situation. As of now, the wireless charging speed is slower than the charging speed provided by the 5W power adapter.

However, if you regularly charge your iPhone in the same place, for example, at the office or your nightstand at home, and speed isn’t a big deal, wireless charging may be worth it to you. Then Qi Wireless Receiver could be the best accessories to bring wireless charging to your iPhone 7 or earlier models.

Qi is the dominator in wireless charging, with the standard is now used in iPhone 8/X, also formed the Wireless Power Consortium. Picking up a Qi compatible wireless receiver to add to your iPhone perhaps is the most cheapest, honest and clean way to bring wireless charging to your device.

Thanks to Lightning connector (typically is included with iPhone 5 and later), these devices with a slim ribbon cable attached to the wireless charging coil that adheres to the back of your iPhone. Commit to memory you may want to use a case to hide the receiver and using a wireless receiver makes it more difficult to use a Lightning cable to charge your phone.

You’ll also need to buy some wireless charging bases if you don’t have them already. As for price, Qi wireless receivers for iPhone starts from $4, while Wireless charging bases priced of $15, another great wireless charging base is the charge force wireless charging base, in addition working om Wireless Battery Case, it also capable of Qi enabled smartphones.

According to Nikkei new report today, Apple is continuing to expand manufacturing efforts related to the production of its own chips. The company's goal is to "better compete" in the field of artificial intelligence and reduce reliance on major suppliers such as Intel and Qualcomm. According to sources, Apple's interest is to building "core processors for notebooks, modem chips for iPhones, and a chip that integrates touch, fingerprint and display driver functions."

According to previous reports, Apple has begun invested in research and development" for baseband modem chips, the chip is currently built by Intel and Qualcomm, which are indispensable for cellular communication features on Apple's mobile devices. Analysts pointed out that Apple legal disputes with Qualcomm, and Apple's high-pass modem chip engineer Esin Terzioglu's are enough to support that the Cupertino company is ready to build its own modem chips.

Building its own core processor chip for MacBook will reduce Apple's reliance on Intel. Industry experts say Apple will use ARM Holding technology to build its notebook chips. ARM Holding is a British company that designs ARM architecture and licenses it out to other companies.

Apple's interest in designing chips that integrate touch, fingerprint and display driver functions is said to be because the company "wants to control next-generation display technology and some related key components."

A number of analysts provide a theoretical basis for Apple to design more of chips for its products, including leading position in the field of artificial intelligence, reducing production costs and better protecting proprietary technology, etc.

Apple today released the first public beta of iOS 11.1 to PB testres, just over one week after releasing iOS 11 to the public and a day after releasing the developer beta 1 update. Beta testers can visit the Apple Developer Center to download the beta profile, to check software updates in Settings and view the new OTA release.

iOS 11.1 seems to feature some small changes like a tweak to add multiple emoji suggestions to the built-in keyboard. There's also an updated camera icon under Restrictions, a new animation when tapping the status bar to scroll upwards, and a faster unlock animation, and a new animation when switching between app. As for peer-to-peer Apple Pay payments, it seems likely to launch late-October.

Aside from releasing iOS 11.1 public beta 1, Apple has also released tvOS 11.1, and macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 public beta 1. Beta testers can download macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 Public Beta 1 through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store with the proper profile installed. The tvOS 11.1 public beta 1 can be obtained in the Settings - Software Updates - System - Get Public Beta Updates.

We are not clear what new features or changes might be included in the macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 and tvOS 11.1 public beta  updates, but it likely focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements, while could perhaps offer up some outward-facing design changes and feature tweaks.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has now issued a statement urging Apple to activate the FM radio capabilities built into the wireless modem of every iPhone. Pai’s pointed statement follows the NAB renewing its own push for Apple to enable FM radio access on iPhones.

Pai said he hopes Apple will reconsider its position following Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, which have devastated parts of the United States, including Florida, Texas, Barbuda, Dominica, and Puerto Rico. The storms can leave over millions of people without cellular service for weeks or even months, while FM radio can provide vital access to weather alerts and other life-saving information.

When wireless networks go down during a natural disaster, smartphones with activated FM chips can allow Americans to get vital access to life-saving information. I applaud those companies that have done the right thing by activating the FM chips in their phones.

Apple is the one major phone manufacturer that has resisted doing so. But I hope the company will reconsider its position, given the devastation wrought by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. That's why I am asking Apple to activate the FM chips that are in its iPhones. It is time for Apple to step up to the plate and put the safety of the American people first. As the Sun Sentinel of South Florida put it, 'Do the right thing, Mr. Cook. Flip the switch. Lives depend on it.'"

Both the Qualcomm and Intel chips that enable Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity in every iPhone have a built-in FM tuner that would allow people to listen to FM radio over the air. Apple has not enabled the functionality, forcing users to use an app to stream FM radio over Wi-Fi or cellular data. Perhaps FM radio access would likely still require a traditional antenna, not as simple as just turning on the function.

Currently, Apple hasn't responded why they counties to keep the FM radio functionality disabled. Some critics suggest it could be to avoid losing Apple Music subscriptions, but who knows? Maybe the real reason is probably deeper than that.

The Wall Street Journal new report backs recent KGI's claims which he believes the TrueDepth camera may be the main production bottleneck of a iPhone X ramp, because it combines several more sensors than rival phones, making it harder to reach productions.

The report, citing people familiar with the situation, saying it has taken more time to assemble the Romeo module than the Juliet module, both part are iPhone X's new TrueDepth facial recognition system for Face ID.

The Romeo and Juliet components are yin-and-yang parts of the new facial-recognition system that will allow iPhone X owners to unlock their phones by scanning their faces, these people said.

It has taken more time to assemble the Romeo modules than the Juliet modules, they said, creating an imbalance in supply. That has served as a bottleneck for the iPhone X’s mass production, according to one person, which could possibly crimp supplies beyond typical initial shortfalls when the phone is released Nov. 3.

The so-called Romeo module reportedly includes the dot projector that beams more than 30,000 invisible dots to create a precise depth map of your face, while the Juliet module includes the infrared camera that analyzes the pattern.

Lastly, one of The Wall Street Journal's sources said the assembly process is now moving smoothly, but the production issues add to concerns about extended shortages when iPhone X sales begin in early November, as the device officially launches November 3.

This week, Apple was named the world's most valuable brand in Interbrand's 2017 Best Global Brands ranking this week, marking Apple's fifth consecutive year in the position. Although it struggled with its first year-over-year revenue decline in 2016 due to flagging iPhone sales, the firm rebounded during the first quarter of 2017 to set new revenue records and has maintained its sales pace throughout the year.

Apple's Interbrand valuation rose 3 percent to $148.15 billion, beats Google ($141.1 billion), Microsoft ($80 billion). Coca-Cola ($ 69.7 billion), Amazon ($64.8 billion) and Samsung ($59.3 billion). Apple and Google two companies have been holding the top two positions over the years, but Microsoft's #3 position is new and comes thanks to double-digit percent growth.

Sadly, Apple has not been listed in the top five Growing Brands category. Perhaps due to Apple struggled with its first year-over-year revenue decline in 2016 due to flagging iPhone sales. While the top five are Facebook (With 48 percent growth), Amazon (29 percent), Adobe (19 percent), Adidas (17 percent), and Starbucks (16 percent) leading that list.

In order to determine a brand's cumulative value, Interbrand considers the financial performance of branded products and services, the role the brand plays in influencing customer choice, and the strength the brand has to command a premium price.

A Chinese regulatory filing that appears to confirm previously unconfirmed details about the internal specifications of Apple's iPhone X, including the device's system RAM, CPU clock speed, and battery capacity.

According to the listing, the regulatory confirmed that iPhone X having a 2,715mAh battery. As a comparison, the iPhone 8 is believed to have 1821 mAh battery, while iPhone 8 Plus battery capacity at 2691 mAh.

The step up in battery capacity is probably a direct result of the iPhone X's OLED screen, a display technology that despite usually requiring less energy than an equivalent LCD panel, probably draws more overall power because of its 5.8-inch size. The Face ID system may also waste battery, and dual-camera’s optical image stabilization perhaps increase the battery consumption

The filling also details the A11 Bionic chip a 2.4GHz clock speed and says the handset is backed by 3GB of RAM, two details that are believed to conform with the iPhone 8 Plus. It’s worth to note that the listing even includes a “Rose Gold” color options, meaning iPhone X will feature with the color version.

Apple announced iPhone X pre-orders officially begin on October 27 and in-store availability is expected on November 3, although several reports suggesting the device will be in short supply until early 2018.

Following the release of a new version of iOS, there are typically complaints about battery problems, issues with apps, and minor bugs, and the launch of iOS 11 has proven to be no exception. Several users in Reddit said that after the installation of iOS 11, their devices encountered app performance degradation, app crashes and other similar problems.

Some users said that since the update, Safari, Reddi, ESPN, Yahoo and other applications appears slow down, Sometimes, apps refuse to open just launching from the Home screen, while at other times, apps launched from Notifications won't work, and there are issues with Bluetooth.

In addition to having slow appl performance, and other variety of Bugs, there are users complaining about the Control Center's "Now Playing" widget, some users said they could not use the "Now Playing" widget to control Spotify and Apple Music, while others said their battery life has taken a serious hit since updating.

Some reddit users claim that resetting their settings through Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings, this does fixed all of the app issues, while others have restored their devices and set it up as new to solve the problem. Affected models include iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and earlier models. The new release of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus does not seem to have such of issues.

New released macOS High Sierra could be impacted by a major security flaw that could allow a hacker to steal the usernames and passwords of accounts stored in Keychain. It turns out that unsigned apps in macOS High Sierra (macOS Sierra) can allegedly access the Keychain info and display plaintext usernames and passwords without a user's master password.

The vulnerability is found by the Security researcher and ex-NSA analyst Patrick Wardle. In order to work, a user needs to download malicious third-party code from an unknown source, something Apple actively discourages with warnings about apps downloaded outside of the Mac App Store. In fact, the compny does not even allow apps from non-trusted developers to be installed without explicitly overriding security settings

The researcher says he created a proof-of-concept app called "keychainStealer" that was able to access plaintext passwords stored in Keychain for Twitter, Facebook, and Bank of America. Wardle spoke to Forbes about the vulnerability and said it's actually not hard to get malicious code running on a Mac even with Apple's protections in place. He he believes Apple will patch the problem in a future update.

Apple has just released this year’s major update to its desktop operating system, macOS High Sierra to the public, the new system is a free download that's available today for everyone who has a compatible Mac. You can download macOS High Sierra through the Software Update function in the Mac App Store. MacOS High Sierra is compatible with all Macs able to run Sierra.

The new macOS High Sierra is designed to improve on the previous macOS Sierra operating system with some major under-the-hood upgrades and a handful of outward-facing changes like brand new Apple File System for Macs with SSDs, significant updates to the Photos app’s interface and editing tools, Safari 11, iCloud file sharing, etc.

Apple File System (APFS), a file system designed for solid state drives (not available for Fusion drives or standard hard drives), is the new default for these drives in macOS High Sierra. APFS is much faster, secure, and optimized for modern storage systems. It features native encryption, safe document saves, stable snapshots, and crash protection, plus it brings performance improvements.

Apple also introduced new version of its graphics framework integrated into High Sierra, Metal 2. Metal 2 offers developers a new API that delivers better performance. System-level painting and drawing like the transition to Mission Control, they are now built on top of Metal. Metal 2 also brings support for machine learning, external GPUs, and VR content creation for the first time.

Photos app is probably the most significant user-facing update in High Sierra. For pro photographers introduced the new edit mode. Adjustments are directly exposed in the sidebar and there are new controls like Curves and Selective Color. Photos also offers much better integration with third-party editing applications; just right-click on an image to ‘Edit With’ apps like Pixelmator and Photoshop.

Safari now blocks autoplay videos and includes Intelligent Tracking Prevention to protect your privacy, and there's also a new always-on option for Safari Reader. Mail search is better than ever, Mail storage has been optimized to take up 35 percent less space, and iCloud Drive file sharing and iCloud storage family plans have been added.

Like iOS 11, Siri has a much more natural voice with changes in expression, and Siri has gotten smarter with cross-device syncing. There are also tweaks to FaceTime which you can snap live photos, Notes support tables and pinning, and improved Spotlight search, etc.

Apple's Latest flagship smartphone, the so-called iPhone X, the demand could reach 40-50 million units due to strong interest, says KGI's Ming-Chi Kuo this morning in an investor note. While Digitimes says that suppliers are only shipping about 40% of the volume originally planned for iPhone X production.

Kuo believes that iPhone X production will be in full swing by October. However, the analyst also believes the TrueDepth camera may be the main production bottleneck of a iPhone X ramp, because it combines several more sensors than rival phones, making it harder to reach productions.

The 3D sensing (TrueDepth camera) on iPhone X is composed of a structured-light system, time-of- flight system and a front-facing camera, which represents a far more complex structure than those of rivals. It will therefore be harder to achieve mass production. While we project iPhone X will see output ramp up meaningfully in mid/ late October, tight supply may only start to ease in 1H18F due to strong demand.

KGi still believes that the iPhone X will be supply constrained through the first half of 2018. Apple has already announced that the device will go up for preorder on October 27 with customers receiving the first units on November 3.

It's certainly true that the hardcore early adopter crowd are also those most likely to want the iPhone X, so lower initial sales for iPhone 8 is probably to be expected. As for Apple’s stock, some investors worry that lower iPhone 8 sales will not be offset by iPhone X sales, in part because of the lengthy supply constraints.

According to mobile engagement platform Localytics’ latest data shows iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus adoption was lower than previous models over the first three days of availability. Specifically, during the first weekend of sales, the devices combined for an estimated 0.7 percent market share of all iPhone models, the lowest since the iPhone 5s in 2013.

iPhone 8 Plus account an estimated 0.4 percent market share, makes the recorded higher first weekend adoption than any Plus-sized iPhone ever, meaning user demand continues to shift towards the larger 5.5-inch smartphone. As for iPhone 8, the adoption rate of an estimated 0.3 percent market share, which is far less than iPhone 7’s 1 percent rate.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus initial performance is not surprising, which can explain consumers are likely to wait for the iPhone X that will launch in November. "Apple is betting big on the iPhone X, and so far it looks like consumers may be doing the same," said Localytics.

Since last year, Apple stopped reporting first weekend sales numbers for new iPhone models last year, due to demand typically outweighs supply, so the company feels it is no longer a representative metric for investors or customers.

Apple's latest OS for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch - iOS 11, however, has an estimated 22 percent adoption that is also lower than previous versions through the first six days of availability.

There are very few things that are more annoying than unwanted cell phone calls. For example, you're just sitting down to catch up on Netflix and the phone rings and it's Sarah from some wildlife company, wanting to know if you'll donate money to save the penguins. While we can block spams through the use of Do Not Disturb or feature download some third-party apps that can totally help you out.

Many third-party apps have been developed that can alert you of a possible spam call by checking an incoming number against the app's database. You can install multiple spam blocking apps and have them work simultaneously, just in case there are any holes in any app's spam library. Some great Third-party call blocking apps like Truecaller and Hiya working quite well,
  1. Launch Settings from your Home screen.
  2. Tap Phone.
  3. Tap Call Blocking & Identification.
  4. Tap the switch next to the call blocking app you'd like to enable.

Another methods to blocking spams is through the The Do Not Disturb feature which Apple introduced a few releases of iOS ago lets you suppress most notifications, sounds, texts, and calls. However, you can choose to let certain things bypass that mode.
  1. Open Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Tap Allow Calls From.
  3. You have several options, but one is All Contacts.

We prefer setting the Do Not Disturb feature for your sleep hours, and relying on call-blocking apps on the day. There are some downsides of these function includes third-party calling app ask access your information, and if you're always in DND mode, and you may miss calls from people who you need to hear from but you haven't yet added to contacts, or they're using a new or borrowed number.

Perhaps you remember a well regarded app called password manager that Intel bought in 2014, and later Intel introduced True Key, a rebranded update of PasswordBox. Among all the other password managers, True Key offers some of the best multi factor authentication available, including facial and fingerprint recognition.

True Key is currently available for Windows, Mac, Android and iDevices, while True Key for iOS (Free) is very easy to use and its graphical user interface is clean and intuitive. It works great whether you are browsing or on app, any app or website that requires login will support True Key Instant Login.

Inside the app there's predefined set of 30 popular web applications templates, whilst you can always add a new login combination from the extensive search for list, or set up a new one. Other feature includes generating complex passwords, creates secure notes, and adding personal data inside the application’s wallet.

When first time to use the app, user will need setup True Key account that has a master password which is one of methods to log into the application. Intel also uses Basic authentication to encourages users to increase security by switching to Advanced authentication, for which customers can choose one of the following combos: face biometrics & master password, master password & Touch ID, and Face & Touch ID.

In addition to the standard Face option, True Key can also record what they call Enhanced Face. This requires a turn of your head left and right so more unique physical spots can be detected, automatically enhancing the security of the authentication process. The app also offers desktop version, It can be run on Windows and macOS.

When it comes to choosing a password manager, True Key has couple of things to take into consideration: ease of use, expected functionality, authentication methods, and the overall look and feel of the app, the password manager app excels at all of these things.

Apple just released iOS 11 this Tuesday, and it seems like someone already found a way to crash your iPhone or bypass the passcode. Each generation of iPhone and its side-release of the iOS version have its own problems. Fortunately, Apple usually patches them up quickly. Sometimes there is a link which crashes iMessage and the entire device or makes video show you how to brick your iDevices.

One can crash the iOS 11 is with the use of profiles which can be loaded locally or from a link in the browser. If you choose to download from the browser straight, you will have to run the profile and load it. These profiles are used to grant users access to the Beta version of the OS, for example, or that allow users to install apps that are not available in the official store.

Well, If you access a third-party profile, you will notice that it’s written in a red font that says it’s not signed, and after you install it, despite all the warnings, you will be forced to see how page after page with fake apps are created. By the way, those fake apps can’t be uninstalled. The end result is the iOS crashing. Video Link

Youtuber EverythingApplePro recently found an exploit called iXintpwn/YJSNPI. This is basically a malicious profile which can be modified to be even worse. The idea is that if you receive a link profile via a link or if you see something on a website, do not download it. Unless it is signed, it could very well be a malicious profile, either brick whole OS or bypass your Lock Screen.

Aside from launch of the new Apple TV 4K, which is in the hands of customers today, according to a support document that was updated today, Apple has quietly updated its iTunes rental policy, the docs suggested customers have 30 days to start watching a movie after it's been rented. Once a movie is started, there's an additional 48 hours to finish the movie and/or rewatch it.

The new 48-hour policy will be a welcome change for the iTunes user in the US, which brings the US viewing window in line with the rest of the world where users have always had 48 hours to finish watching a rental after pressing play to start streaming.

“You have 30 days to start watching a movie after you rent it,” reads the support document. “After you start watching the movie, you have 48 hours to finish it.”

As always, rented movies can be watched on multiple devices but limited to download on a single device, so customers can rent a movie, download it, and then watch it over the course of the next 48 hours. Apple also notes that the 48-hour limit still applies to movies viewed offline.

Since Apple introduced 4K Apple TV on its September 12 Press Event, Apple has made many 4K movies available to rent or purchase at the same price as High Definition (HD) content. as we mentioned recently, 4K content can't be downloaded, however, and is only limited to streaming.

Apple today officially launches the new iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and Apple Watch Series 3. The new iPhone and Apple Watch models went on sale (or will soon go on sale) at 8 a.m. local time around the world today, and Apple posted pictures of customers purchasing the devices at Apple Stores in London, Singapore, Taipei, and Sydney.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus both featured with a glass back design, same design used on iPhone 4. For the first time to includes inductive wireless charging, allow user wireless charging their iPhone. It also uses new Retina HD displays, with a faster A11 Bionic chips, Bluetooth 5, best camera ever in smartphones, and an advanced augmented reality capabilities.

Although the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus launched first in countries like New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and China, while a Reuters report last night referenced "a bleak turnout" for the smartphones. Fewer than 30 people were said to have lined up outside of the Sydney Apple Store on George Street, due to most Apple customers are likely waiting for the iPhone X, coming November 3.

Because of the devices launched in other countries, the first sets of unboxing, speed test, and durability videos have been posted on Youtube. As shown in the video, the iPhone 8 seems to be as resistant to scratches as the iPhone 7, but it emerged from a bend test with higher marks and faster speed than the previous generation iPhone models.

For the Apple Watch Series 3 Apple has made some notable improvements to the wearable's health and fitness metrics, improving heart rate sensing and enhancing a few user interface elements in watchOS 4 to make it easier to sync to gym equipment and be warned of an elevated heart rate. Series 3 models also include faster dual-core processors and LTE connections in cellular models.

Aside released iPhone 8 and Apple Watch Series 3, Apple also launched the Apple TV 4K today, which introduces the ability to view 4K HDR content on the set-top box. Sadly, the firm confirmed yesterday that the new 4K content on iTunes is limited to streaming only, and can't be downloaded directly to the Apple TV to view offline, only HD versions of films and below can be downloaded.

According to The Verge’s Nilay Patel found interesting tidbits about the Apple TV 4K in his review. such as the streaming media player could gain support for Dolby Atmos surround sound technology in the future by way of a tvOS software update, as well as the YouTube app doesn’t show 4K video.

"Apple told me that the lack of Atmos isn't a hardware limitation, and that support is on the roadmap," wrote Patel. Dolby Atmos was developed to give sound from movies and TV shows a more three-dimensional effect. Rather than being constrained to channels, sounds can be precisely placed and moved in three-dimensional space.

With the YouTube revelation is more fundamental, though there is a technical reason backing it. The Apple TV supports H.264, HEVC and MP4 video formats. YouTube serves 4K HDR video in the open-source VP9 format. As a result, users will find that the YouTube app can only output upscaled 1080p. The ever-growing 4K YouTube video library is not available to Apple TV users.

According to Apple support document, you can download a local copy of an HD or SD movie from iTunes to your iDevices, Mac or PC just like you’ve always been able to, or streaming through Apple TV, however, 4K movies are not available for download and thus can't be watched without an internet connection., it's worth to notes here that minimum speed of 25Mb to stream 4K content.

It's not clear why Apple is not allowing customers to download 4K content onto their devices, perhaps it could potentially be a licensing issue. Apple is providing 4K content at the same price as HD content, although movie studios were rumored to want to charge more. It's also possible it's a local storage issue, as usually 4K movies have large file sizes.

Apple TV 4K do supports 4K contents from Netflix or other streaming services, however, Apple has promised 4K content from Amazon Prime Video will be available when the app most like to launches later this year. The first Apple TV 4K orders will begin arriving to customers tomorrow, the official launch date of the device, alongside iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and Apple Watch Series 3.

Apple SVP of software engineering Craig Federighi recently revealed that the 3D Touch gesture to accessing the App Switcher will return in a future update in iOS 11. Federighi, replying to an email from a MacRumors reader named Adam Zahn, who he said the company had to "temporarily drop support" for the gesture because of an unidentified "technical constraint."

Hi Adam,

We regretfully had to temporarily drop support for this gesture due to a technical constraint. We will be bringing it back in an upcoming iOS 11.x update.

Thanks (and sorry for the inconvenience)!

On the devices that support 3D Touch (iPhone 6s and later) running iOS 9 or iOS 10, users can long press on the left side of the screen, drag to the right, and release to quickly access the App Switcher. The gesture stopped working in the iOS 11 beta, with an Apple engineer later confirmed this wasn't a bug, but it was "intentionally removed."

Federighi also disclosed that Apple has considered a Nightstand mode for iPhone X. saying "this is definitely something we've considered." In response to an email from MacRumors reader Zain, asked whether a Nightstand mode would be possible for iPhone X. Federighi replies have also revealed that Face ID will work with most sunglasse.

Nightstand mode is an Apple Watch feature that allows the smartwatch to be used as a nightstand clock and an alarm clock while it is laying on its side and charging. The watch displays the time in large text, along with the date, the battery's remaining charge, and an upcoming alarm if one is set. "This makes the most sense for customers who charge their phone in a dock that tilts up the phone."
