Apple To Build The $1 Billion Campus In Austin, Texas

Apple announced in a press release today that it will invest $1 billion to build a new campus in Austin, Texas. Covering an area of 133 acres, the new campus is less than a mile from the city's existing campus it can accommodate an additional 5,000 employees, and is expected to make Apple the largest private employer in Austin. Likewise, the campus will be powered by 100% renewable energy.

"Apple is proud to bring new investment, jobs and opportunity to cities across the United States and to significantly deepen our quarter-century partnership with the city and people of Austin," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "Talent, creativity and tomorrow's breakthrough ideas aren't limited by region or zip code, and, with this new expansion, we're redoubling our commitment to cultivating the high-tech sector and workforce nationwide."
The company also said that the expansion of the Campus created a wide range of employment opportunities, including engineering, R&D, operations, finance, sales and customer support. The current Austin campus is already represents largest number of employees outside of Cupertino, with nearly 6,200 staff. In total, Apple now employs 90,000 people in all 50 states, with over 1,000 people in 16 states.

In addition to the new Austin campus, Apple announced today that it will continue to expand over the next three years, with plans to open new offices in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City and to expand operations in Boulder, Pittsburgh, New York and Colorado. Moreover, Apple is planning to invest $10 billion over the next five years for data centers in the United States.
