Japanese tech blog Mac Otakara found in the application platform of WebKit's Track management and bug tracking system that Apple has removed Dashboard support from WebKit. Earlier, it has been discovered that in the latest macOS Catalina beta, the Dashboard has utterly disappeared. WebKit is the Apple Safari rendering engine responsible for macOS web content rendering.
This is not a shocking thing, of course, but this time the hope was lost completely, and the dashboard will not bring it back in the future beta macOS Catalina. Apple has deactivated this function in OS X Yosemite by default, but it can be activated via the Control Center.
Dashboard appeared first on the OS X 10.4 Tiger system and was one of the primary characteristics of Mac, it intended to be including simple applications (widgets) that do not take time to launch, such as notes, weather forecasts, clocks, and calculators, which depend on the Safari WebKit open source engine.
The Dashboard can be configured as space with the launch of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, accessed by swiping four fingers from either side of the Desktops to the right. However, it is disabled by default in OS X 10.10 Yosemite, as the Notification Center is now the main widget display technique. The Dashboard has been with us for 14 years and it is time for it to retire.
