Well-noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a new investor report today that provides a timeline for Apple's move to mini-LED technology for its upcoming products over the next two or three years.
According to Kuo, Apple is planning to introduce a high-end 12.9-inch iPad Pro with an A14X chip in the third quarter of 2020 and a refreshed 16-inch MacBook Pro in the fourth quarter of 2020, which are said to feature the mini-LED tech. It's worth mentioning that the analyst previously said such a tech will not appeared on Apple products until 2021 at the latest.
Apart from these two products at the end of 2020, Kuo argues that four more products will be released by Apple in the coming years, while adding that Apple's adoption of the technology is expected to "accelerate the development of the mini-LED industry."
Further, Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the mini-LED displays will "significantly improve productivity and the entertainment experience" without elaborating. Moreover, mini-LED displays are also supposedly offer a rich wide color gamut, high contrast ratios, high dynamic range, and localized dimming, as well as more power efficient, and that it do not suffer from burn-in like OLED.
The reliable analyst have previously said that future iPad and MacBook displays will each use estimated 10,000 LEDs, as opposed to 576 used in Apple's Pro Display XDR, which will be available for purchase this month, according to the company.
As a result, LG Display based in South Korea and GIS will be the most critical benefactors of these mini-LED products beginning the year after, Kuo concludes.
