iOS 13.3 Beta Introduces Option To Disable Ulta-Wideband Chip

Last December, we reported that Apple's latest iPhone 11 and 11 Pro can still track users' locations and other privacy data even after turning off Location Services. This is to owe to the fact that the iPhone 11 series feature the so-called Ultra-Wideband chip for more accurate positioning. After getting feedbacks, Apple quickly responded that it plans to add a dedicated switch in the future, giving users the option to turn off relevant functions.

Discovered by Apple YouTuber Brandon Butch, in the latest iOS 13.3.1 beta 2, Apple has fulfilled its promise to allow users to disable Ultra-Wideband (UWB) features. However, this switch is "Location for Networking & Wireless". However, if it is switched off, it will not only affect UWB but also affect the use of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Ultra-Wideband technology is an industry-standard technology and is subject to the requirements of international regulations. Related regulations require that Ultra-Wideband technology be not used in certain locations. Apple devices with Ultra-Wideband chips use Location Services to help determine whether they are in these prohibited areas.

Apple will be rollout this new option to all iPhone 11 and 11 Pro users when iOS 13.3 drops, which won't likely to happen until late February or even early March.
