A report published today by Bloomberg suggests that Apple is plotting to release its own brand of high-end over-ear wireless headphones as early as this year.
The piece claims that Apple is developing at least two new headphones with interchangeable magnetic components, one using leather fabric and the other using lighter materials, the latter is more suitable for fitness purposes.
Apple is anticipated to use wireless pairing and noise cancelation features in the headphones like it did to the AirPods Pro. Moreover, the premium headphones will use Siri for voice control and to include a small selection of integrated touch controls.
Bloomberg notes that the upcoming over-ear headphones' ear pads and headbands would be drawn to the earphone frame through the magnetic pull, so users could readily replace them. The general design is similar to the Master & Dynamic and Bowers & Wilkins headphones, as this design could mean that the same set of earphones can be flipped between two modes of comfort and fitness preference, people familiar with the matter said.
The people told Bloomberg that Apple is expected to release the product later this year, but given the current supply chain interruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the final release time of this new product is still uncertain.
