Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a new research report today claiming that Apple will introduce its Arm-based custom-designed chips for Macs at WWDC, which in line with a recent Bloomberg report.
Kuo said that he expects the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and the 24-inch iMac are the first Mac models to adopt ARM chips, with the latter said to come with a brand-new design. Meantime, the performance of ARM Mac is expected to increase by 50–100% compared to Intel Mac
Kuo interpreted that the design of the ARM 13.3-inch MacBook Pro is similar to the Intel 13.3-inch MacBook Pro. Apple will stop offering the Intel 13.3-inch MacBook Pro following mass production of the ARM 13.3-inch MacBook Pro.
Before the launch of ARM iMac, Apple will launch an updated model of Intel iMac in the third quarter of 2020, says Kuo.
The analyst predicts that from 2021, all new Mac models will be outfitted with ARM processors. It is anticipated that in the next 12-18 months, all Mac models will be switched to ARM, and the MacBook with a new design will be launched in the second half of 2021.
Kuo believes that thanks to the integration of ARM processors, Mini-LED displays, and scissor keyboards, the MacBook will become much competitive in the next two years. He expects that Apple will soon release MacBook models equipped with mini LED displays in the first half of 2021.
In terms of shipments, Kuo prognosticates that MacBook shipments will increase by 30% in the third quarter of 2020, with MacBook shipments and market share are expected to grow significantly in the future.
