WWDC 2020 Schedule Released: Keynote, Sessions and Lab Information

This summer’s WWDC event will be held on the 22nd to the 26th of June, which is in a week. Apple released the schedule for the virtual keynote, Platforms State of the Union, sessions, and the virtual lab reservations. There is also an upcoming redesign of the Apple Developer Forums on June 18th and the nomination of the Swift Student Challenge winners.

On the first day of the conference week on the 22nd of June, the WWDC keynote will be live-streamed from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park at 10 am. As the event is fully online due to the current public health crisis, there will be no attendees sitting in the bleachers at the keynote venue. The live stream will be available on the Apple Developer app on iOS and tvOS and on the Apple and Apple Developer websites. The stream is also available on YouTube and on Chinese social media and streaming networks Tencent, iQIYI, BiliBili and Youku if viewers are watching the keynote in China.

The same day of the keynote also includes the yearly Platforms State of the Union, which will live stream on 2 PM PDT on June 22nd. Apple engineers will showcase the latest advances and nominate the best apps for the year for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS. The video will be available for streaming on the Apple Developer app and website, including on Tencent, iQIYI, Bilibili, and Youku for live streaming in China.

On the other 4 days of the WWDC event week will be over 100 app engineering sessions from Apple engineers to help developers and software engineers develop apps for the next iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS software. All videos will be pushed out on 10 AM PDT every Tuesday to Friday morning, on the Apple Developer app and website. All sessions, documentation, and sample code are available to everyone.

For the developers spending their time stuck at home and needing help with their apps, Apple is offering one-on-one engineering labs to everyone in the Apple Developer Program by appointment. Developers can sign in to the Apple Developer website, choose a lab on the schedule, and submit their request. Apple will email developers for the status and confirmation of their request to meet up with an engineer virtually. There will only be a designated number of developers to receive help from Apple engineers during the week of WWDC.

The Apple Developer forums are getting a new revamp, with a redesigned layout coming on June 18th. All Apple developers can submit their questions and concerns about software and app development on the forums. Over a thousand Apple engineers are all available to help developers with assistance with their apps and software development projects. Everyone can access the forums on the website and developers who are in the Apple Developer Program can connect with Apple engineers about WWDC on the forums.

This summer’s WWDC virtual conference will bring millions of Apple developers and engineers, including Apple fans together at home to see the upcoming Apple software updates, the best apps of the year, and many other announcements. Everyone can not wait for the event to come in a week, but it is also a completely different event as the pandemic still bans public gatherings from happening. That does not stop Apple from hosting big events such as the WWDC, but in a digital format as everyone stays home and works from home.
