Pegatron Is Said To Produce Apple's First 'ARM-Based MacBook'

According to the DigiTimes report, Pegatron has secured orders from Apple that will be producing an ARM-based MacBook. In addition, the Taiwan-based website confirmed previous Bloomberg report that the new ARM MacBook has an internal codename of Star and carries the serial number of N84.

Pegatron is likely to land orders from Apple to produce an ARM-based MacBook model, codenamed Star with a series number N84, according to industry sources.

Rumors about Apple's eventual launch of the ARM-based MacBook have been around for a long time, just over this weekend, 9to5Mac has reported that Apple’s so-called "Star" project could be the device. A report from September also claimed that Apple would build its own ARM chips for its laptops.

The primary reason behind this approach is that the development of ARM chips will allow Apple to reduce its dependence on Intel. The ARM processor consumes less power and has fewer transistors, implementing the IC with a smaller size.
