YouTuber Suggest The New 15-Inch MacBook Pro Has Throttled Core i9 Chip Since It Can't Provide Sufficient Cooling

A YouTube user, Dave Lee, shared a video yesterday and suggest you to not buy a 15-inch MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i9 processor. The reason is also very simple. According to his test, the laptop can't even run at its base clock speed, so he goes on suggests that it have done thermal throttling since it can't provide sufficient cooling to run at full speed.

Dave Lee also shared some Premiere Pro rendering times, where he points out that 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro with Core i9 processor is not as great as the 2017 MacBook Pro with Core i7 when it comes to rendering. The 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro takes 39 minutes to render, whereas the 2017 model takes 35 minutes. Despite Premiere Pro is not specifically optimized for macOS, the gap is still significant.

Once Lee put the 2018 MacBook Pro into the fridge and tested it again, the performance of the Core i9 processor of the 2018 MacBook Pro was excellent, as it took only 27 minutes to complete the rendering. Dave Lee believes that the thermal throttling of the 2018 i9 MacBook Pro is "unacceptable" and professional users will be greatly affected.

It's unclear whether Lee received a MacBook Pro with a Core i9 chip got something wrong, currently, there are no users report this problem.
