Apple Removed 11 Categories From Mac App Store, Now Shows Only 10 Categories

Apple removed has 11 Mac App Store categories, leaving only 10 categories in the current category tab. After the release of macOS Mojave in September, the Mac App Store offers 21 categories. The categories that Apple removed include: Finance, Lifestyle, Sports, Weather, Medical, Travel, Education, Reference, Entertainment, Health & Fitness, and News.

The remaining 10 categories include: Business, Developer Tools, Games, Graphics & Design, Music, Photography, Productivity, Social Networking, Utilities, as well as Video. According to a Twitter user who asked why the Mac App Store no longer showing all of 21 categories, Apple Support respond that this is a expected behavior, so Apple did that for purpose.

When a developer submits an app to the Mac App Store, they can choose between primary and secondary categories. The primary categories are important for app discovery, as users often find apps by category when they browse the Mac App Store or search.

At the moment, it's unclear why Apple is removing the Mac App Store category. The Apple Developer Documentation page has not changed and is still in shows 21 categories.
