Apple announced that it will recall some MacBook Pro models (Retina, 15-inch, mid-2015) starting from today, and has launched a replacement program for the models. Apple says that the units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 contain a battery that may overheat and pose a safety risk.
Customers are advised to stop using impacted MacBook Pro units until they can take measures to replace their batteries as directed by Apple. Apple suggests it is possible to identify impacted units in need of replacement by entering the serial number of a Mac on the page of the recall program.
Furthermore, Apple insists that the recall will only affect the 201515-inch MacBook Pro and will not impact subsequent models launched in 2016 and beyond. It's recommended that customers should visit the Apple Support webpage for details on product eligibility and how to have a battery replaced, free of charge.
On a side note, you can also hit an Apple authorized service provider, set up an appointment at an Apple retail store, or contact Apple's support staff to arrange a mail-in repair, and it would take up to 2 weeks for the repairs to be completed.
