Latest On 2019 iPhones: Smart Battery Case Is Coming, New Performance Management System, And More

Based on the code found in the iOS 13.1 beta, Apple will release Smart Battery cases for iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, models A2180, A2183 and A2184. At the moment, it is not clear when these smart battery cases will be released to the public, but it is reasonable to assume that will go on sale before the holiday shopping season take places. In December last year, information about the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR Smart Battery cases was first surfaced, and Apple introduced them in the month. Compared with last year's iPhone, this year's new iPhone has doubled battery capacity, improved power management, and a longer battery life.

Speak of iPhone battery, in an Support document, Apple states that iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max have new hybrid performance management software and hardware systems. Apple writes that the new performance management mechanism is "more advanced" than the battery and power management system on older iPhones and delivers the best performance when the battery ages.

The power consumption of the latest iPhone is tracked dynamically while performing performance management in real time. All lithium-ion batteries have a life-cycle. Long-term use may trigger the battery to age and impact performance, such as longer time to launch the app, low frame rate, volatile wireless connection, dim backlight, and insufficient speaker level.

Repair site iFixit, on the other hand, finds that iPhone 11 Pro Max appears to include the unimplemented bilateral charging feature. "What's more, when we reconnected the cable, our phone displayed a momentary temperature warning before returning to normal. We suspect it lost contact with an important battery temperature sensor and shut itself down; this sounds a lot like a reverse wireless charging heat management feature to us," writes iFixit.
