It's Official: Apple Chief Designer Jony Ive Departs The Company

Apple announced in late June that its chief design officer, Jony Ive, will leave the company later this year to start his own independent design company, "LoveFrom Jony," but Apple did not reveal a specific date. After Jonathan leaves, the company's design team leaders, Evans Hankey, vice president of Industrial Design, and Alan Dye, vice president of Human Interface Design, will report directly to Apple's Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams (these two previously reported directly to Ive)

Today, French blog MacGeneration noticed that Apple has just quietly updated its "Leadership" page, of which Jonathan's page has been taken down, which indicates that he may have completely left Apple.

However, Evans Hankey, the new Vice President of Industrial Design responsible for design tasks, and Alan Dye, Vice President of Human-Machine Interface Design, did not appear on this page, it's unclear why the page is temporarily missing the introduction of executives who specialize in design.

Apple mentioned in Jonathan's departure statement that the company will be Jonathan's first customer. Although Jonathan is no longer an Apple employee, he will continue to participate in the design of Apple products in the next few years. At the same time, Jonathan's close friend Marc Newson will also leave Apple to join Ive's new design startup.

As once Apple's chief designer, Jony Ive is hailed as one of the two most valuable people in the world's greatest companies today-the other is CEO Tim Cook. The departure of Jonathan Ivey did mark the end of an era. Apple has begun to cast off its hardware products that have long relied on its particular design style and has shifted its focus to more profitable service categories.

In addition to Jonathan, Apple has faced frequent than ever administration changes this year. First in April was Angela Ahrendts, senior vice president of Retail, then Jony Ive, Chief Design Officer, and Steve Dowling, Apple's vice president of public relations, also announced his departure in September.
