WWDC is coming in two weeks and the conference for this year will be held digitally due to the bans on public events during the coronavirus outbreak. This year’s event is also held a little later in the month as Apple is preparing for its first, socially distanced event in the company’s history. This summer’s event will consist of iOS and iPadOS 14, macOS 10.16, watchOS 7, tvOS 14, and the next concepts for developers to improve and develop great apps.
While Apple fans and software developers are waiting for the event, it is also the time to prepare for live streaming the keynote on June 22nd. Here are the software requirements to live stream WWDC later this month.
To live stream the event, an iPhone, iPad, or iPod running the latest iOS and iPadOS version is required to stream the event. Additionally, the Apple Developer app needs to be downloaded to the iOS device or if users do not prefer using the app, then head on over to developer.apple.com/wwdc20/ and stream the keynote address on the iPhone or iPad. A stable internet or WiFi connection is also required to stream the event.
On a Mac, make sure it is running the latest macOS Catalina version and the Safari version is updated to its latest version as well. Then on the day of the event, open Safari, go to the Apple Developer website, and click on the WWDC picture on the homepage. The live keynote video should appear on the browser. Make sure the WiFi connection is fast and stable and the video should live stream without any clipping or quality issues. In addition, Safari updates for macOS can be done on the Mac App Store on the Updates section.
Due to the public health mandates from the California government, developers and Apple fans have to end up staying in their living rooms instead of sitting in a crowded auditorium and traveling hundreds of miles to get to Northern California due to the ongoing event of George Floyd protests in San Jose and the coronavirus outbreak. Although the cases are slowing down for a while and California will be entering Phase 3 reopening soon, public gatherings and events for more than 10 people are still banned.
To stream the event live on Apple TV, install the Apple Events app from the App Store on tvOS. Then on June 22nd, open the app and tune in to the live stream on 10 AM PDT for the keynote. Now WWDC is in the comfort and safety of your living room. On the other hand, ensure that the app is updated to the latest version and the tvOS version on your Apple TV is up to date.
For those who do not have a Mac or an Apple TV, streaming the WWDC event on a PC is still possible. Make sure you update your web browser and type in developer.apple.com/wwdc20/ in the address bar. Click on the button to watch the event live on the day of June 22nd and the event should be live streaming on your browser. A stable WiFi connection is also recommended to live stream the event at the best quality.
Therefore, the WWDC event this summer will bring billions of developers and Apple fans together as everyone remains to stay home this June. The iOS and iPadOS 14 and macOS beta testing season will kick off a little bit late this year, but every Apple user will still have a chance to beta test the next iOS version while living in a completely different society. More updates on WWDC will be rolled out in the coming days.
